Thinking into the future, I'll probably be jumping on the 4th Gen train in the next couple years. Any thoughts on the extra cab vs the quad cab? I kinda want to downsize to the extra cab for a couple reasons, but it looks like A) there aren't even jumper seats back there now, and B) you can't get OR in anything but the double cab? Is that right? Any thoughts on whether they might offer one in the future? I know the back seat is smaller as it is, so maybe I should just be looking for a DCLB OR anyway... Thoughts?

It's too bad they no longer make the Access Cab. it's great to be able to open the "suicide doors " to fully utilize the space behind the front seats.

Agreed, they took the best part away by doing away with the clamshell doors.

I really do hate that Toyota did away with the suicide doors altogether. It's so much easier to open them little doors, and throw whatever you want in the space. Need more space? Unbolt them seats and headrests and do away with them. Let's be honest here, no one really rides on them jump seats. But in the off chance you do need to pack 3 people into ya access cab, having them there and adding one more Adult back there is do-able. Wont be super comfortable, but you'll have enough room to put you're back toward the suicide door and swing them legs towards the passenger side. I wouldn't want to be back there for hours and hours on any road trip, but for an hour or so drive, I've rode in worse vehicles. Really, I just absolutely always have loved the look of the access cab, something about them suicide doors, and little jump seats that speak to my soul I suppose. Such a bummer Toyota did away with them in the 4th gen, I do hope they make a come back tho

You're correct re both A&B---- if either or both of those factors are important, the XC is likely not for you. I have one and love it, but there are definitely limitations that would make it a deal-breaker for many buyers.
^^^^ Agree 100% w/ both of you---- it works for me, but would be much, much better if they kept those little doors.

Edit: @xBloodxLinex, agree w/ your comments as well (you must have posted while I was typing):)

Argh yeah, I like the little jump seats and access doors too. I suppose in the end it's not even a question unless they offer the OR in the extra cab. Maybe if we all complain loud enough, they'll add em in starting in 27 or 28

Or, maybe I just need to find a super low mile 2023 SR SX in a couple years and build the crap out of it.

I agree with you guys, no doors, stick a fork in it. Only a matter of time. When the 24s came out, I called it the Non-Access-Access Cab. Major fail IMO.

This is the only correct move we have going forward Boys... If enough of us call into Toyota and voice our concerns over NOT having an access point for the 4th gen access cab, maybe they'll listen to us and overwhelming comments telling them to bring it back. The Toyota Customer Experience Center can be reached at 1-800-331-4331. I know it's a PITA, but maybe if we make enough noise, we'll get them suicide doors back

    None so far
'Wouldn't surprise me if they ended the extracab too. Many of us sort of depended on Toyota to consistently improve its products. I started in '91, with their extended cab pickup, then a '01 Tacoma TRD OR, and next a '12 Access Tacoma TRD OR. (Finally, a '24 dblcab.) Each was an improvement over the previous (not too sure about the '24 yet). So when they went backwards by eliminating the Accesscab (and V6) in '24, that marked a significant shift away from what I wanted most from Toyota. Also, moving so many of their factories to Mexico is disappointing in my opinion.

Extended cab appears to be on the decline. Competitors (Colorado, Ranger, Gladiator, Ridgeline) don't offer it. Even the Maverick which is capturing some of the mini truck market left behind by Toyota after 2015 is double cab-only.

Vote with your wallet and get a Frontier Pro-4X if you want to buy new. It's made in 'Mericuh.

And not to pile on Toyota but I know you can get the Ranger and the Frontier with access cabs (and V6).

I don't think the new Colorado is available with an access can but I could be wrong.

I love my access cab, but if I was going 4th gen, I'd get the double cab. Not because I think it's better or because I'd be seating a third or fourth person, but simply because the xtra cab is a huge downgrade in terms of accessibility.

You should get a fullsize if interior space is important to you.

I pulled the seats and headrest from my AC. Doors are a must. My T100 AC did not have doors. Sucked.
DC with seats removed has some appeal to me only with a long bed (6 ft).

When I was shopping to replace my '96 Tacoma, I searched for quite a while for a V6 Access Cab model with a 6 ft bed. I finally settled for a '23 Double Cab thinking that it would be ok. 1) I never used the back seats for anything but cargo, 2) it was too long to fit into my garage, 3) parking was a bit more challenging, I ended up selling it after a year, opting to keep my "right-sized" '96 extended cab Tacoma.

Ah, I missed that Ford ditched the super cab in the US, my buddy has one (must be the last year) and assumed you could still get them. Can still get a V6, however.

I keep my 3rd gen access cab for trails and camping. I bought a used 4Runner to daily - it's shorter than a regular cab Tacoma, easier to snake through traffic.

It's like having a regular cab but you have somewhere to throw your sun shade.

    I believe the Ranger has 2 V6 options (2.7) (3.0) beside the.base 2.3.

My 2017 Access Cab has the Utility Package, so no back seats or headrests. It’s my two-seater, 5 speed manual, sport truck. IMG_1901.jpg
