Getting conflicting information on my search regarding wheel backspace so hopefully those who are running 285/75 R16's can chime in with what the optimal backspacing is I have no plans on running spacers. Some say 4.5 others say 4 and a couple say 4.25 opinions?

    Thanks in advance

    EDIT*** 16x8 rim size.

I can tell you I had rub on UCAs and LCAs with stock 5.25 wheels. Spidertrax pushed them out to 4.0 BS and I had to trim a little bit of plastic off the fenders.

I believe 4.5 will work as well. As should 4.25.

This has all been adressed before quite thoroughly though.

4" backspacing should be enough for zero rubbing, after some trimming.

5" backspacing will give you the best fit and least amount of trimming! If you have a 3" lift. I had 4.5bs and had to trim my bumper cover quite a bit. I don't think i would have trimmed at all with 5".

4.5" is fine, as should be 5"

I'm doubtful that .25 inches would have been enough to solve my LCA and UCA rubbing issues. Just saying...

rim width effects the positioning of the tire as well as backspace. The stock wheels are narrow, forcing the tire to be bulged. On wider wheels the tire bulges less and the centerline of the tire sits out farther.

I edited my post to specify the rim size as 16x8. Someone pointed out this has all been discussed thouroughly before but as you can see, a discussion does not equate to an answer.

So now we have anything from 4 all the way up to 5 just in this short thread :)

Ordering rims is sort of something you want to get right the first time.
I do plan on aftermarket bumpers and my suspension is pretty much narrowed down to ICON extended reservoirs with camburg or TC UCA's.

Also thanks for those offering input its appreciated. Eric got your email about the front bumper and the sliders thanks!

Ding ding ding! No one ever thinks of this as a factor....

Bottom line is that people have fit that size on anything from 4" to 5" of backspacing, so get something in that range, and trim away.

    I have a similar question -

    16x8, 0 offset, 4.5 bs or
    17x9, -12offset, 4.5 bs

What difference will the offset make if any?

The wheel will stick out 1" more and the tire will stick out 1/2" more with the 9" wide option

So the 16x8 will stick out about an inch more than stock?

The 8" wide wheel will stick out 1.5" mire than your stock sport wheels
