Whats up TW! Did a quick search and didn't see any mentions of Sleep Token. Considering their major blowup over the last year or so, why not have a thread to talk about them! If you're not familiar with them, I'd say give them more than a few listens before forming your opinions. I admittedly didn't like them upon first listen. But they kept popping up, I kept getting sucked in, and I'm currently in a rabbit hole so deep that I really haven't listened to any other music for the last few months.

To keep the thread respectful, lets please acknowledge that they are an anonymous band, and while you're free to post any already well-known public knowledge, try to refrain from talking about things that would identify Vessel and potentially ruin anonymity for those who don't know or care to know.

Off topic guy staying true to name.

No idea what or who.. you're talking about. They're definitely doing a good job with their anonymity.

I absolutely love sleep token. Infinite Baths is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.

I came for the Tacomas; stayed for the off topic forums :anonymous: Seriously though, TW is probably the best run forum for nearly every topic. Extremely happy TW offers an Off Topic section for this type of stuff.
At least its in the correct forum o_O
With #1 billboards, #1 album in multi genre awards, top 10 singles, global streaming achievements, and more, its fair to say they've blown up, even if you're not familiar with them. And that's entirely okay, I'm not here to make converts or recruit fans. I don't expect most to know who they are, nor care about talking about them. But for those who have taken a deep dive into their music, I'd love to create an outlet here to do so:thumbsup:. We have a thread for everything else under the sun, I think a thread about music in the music section of the off topic forum seems appropriate. Not here to dick-ride a band (we're not "Swifties":anonymous:), just have fun conversation. If its not for you, its not for you, but you're still welcome to stay

I get it though, its weird.. Why create a thread about a band on a truck forum, when there's probably hundreds of threads out there on other platforms. Well, I don't use those other platforms. I prefer TW. I come here to talk about hunting, shooting, music, woodworking, gardening, grilling, and everything else Off Topic; hence the name :)

I'll admit, their fanbase is extremely cultish, and I had a hard time at first. I actually wasn't a fan the first time I listened to a couple of their songs. It seemed too dramatic, whiny, and like theatre. And while a big respecter of most art, I struggled with this one. The fan theories regarding the lore of Sleep and what the songs were about just seemed crazy to me. I really don't know what changed or when, but I gave them another shot, and went into probably the biggest rabbit hole I've been down in music, other than Ren (if you don't know about him, he's a tough listen too at surface level, but full of rich art and deeper meaning).

Now here we are, starting threads on a truck forum. I guess I'm a part of the cult now :anonymous:

Man this song hits hard (as they all do..). I think there's a lot of references in this song that point towards being restricted by being under a major music label, having to meet certain demands/sacrifice certain things, but also point to the very real struggles the man behind the mask faces just simply being a touring musician. Feelings of needing the mask and being no one without the mask, it looking like heaven to have fame/be on stage in front of a stadium full of fans every night, but the wear and tear being a touring musician does to you physically and emotionally.

"what is silent you you, feels like it's screaming to me."
Having done my fair share of live music, using in ear monitors for extended amounts of time, having a constant click track (whether IEM mix is good or not), it can really take a toll on your auditory system. Whether you cause actual damage or not, just the feeling of isolation from IEM's can be its own sort of hell. But considering the life of rock and roll and loud music touring all the time, its not unrealistic to think Vessel might experience tinnitus from time to time. In this sense, what sounds like silence for most, is a constant ringing/humming/buzzing sound to him.

I like the group. But they have some obsessive fans.
It's like some of them are only there to out them and delve into the bands privacy.

It's a double edged sword. As is anything that brings you fame.

You got that right. As I said, they're very cultish in the way a lot of their fans act. The whole "lore" part of them seemed so gimmicky to me and I hard time accepting it. The more quickly I realized that there's only about 2 interviews they've ever done, the more I realized that the lore is 95% fan theory and not actually anything the band has officially endorsed as true. And the more I accept that, the more I start to respect the "lore." They gave us a little bite of info to go off of, and left the rest up to interpretation, which I'm growing to respect a lot more. It gives me the ability to say I don't really care to join the cult and "worship" some god named Sleep at their "rituals"/concerts.. But I can make my own interpretations and replace a god named Sleep with past abusive relationships, struggles with addiction, or whatever other things or emotions their songs can illicit.

I thought it was something to do with sleep appnea or a spread sheet to track your sleep, but it is a music thread. Can you hear their music for free on youtube with out signing in?

    I agree.

I like a broad range of music.
I've never been a super fan to anyone artist or group.
I like the song, not necessarily the artist/band.
I will say, I'm more or a Rock, Alt Rock, Grunge, Metal guy.
After all, I did have long hair in high school. Sporting the GnR, Ozzy, and Metallica shirts regularly. :headbang:

From reading about the band just now (read, not listening to them) I'm getting a similar vibe to Slipknot with the mystery. I recall 'knot saying it was to make it more about the music. Makes sense..

Or perhaps they just like their privacy. Different thing, but in Mexico the wrestlers/luchadores wear masks for similar reasons. I can respect it regardless but I also see value to one's life having that separation.

    HA! Awesome.

Loving the new album. Im an audio engineer by trade so work in music all the time. And I haven't listen this much to full album over and over again in a LONG time.

Love the diversity in the album. I think my fav songs are:

    Dangerous
    Damocles
    Gethsemane
    Infinite baths
    Emergence

With honorable mentions to all the rest of the tracks lol

I was very sad it wasn't done in Atmos(I work in atmos a lot) as it could be an absolute stunner of an immersive mix if they didn't half ass it like a lot of artists are these days to get the additional apple music royalty payout.

First heard them via a friend with the track Chokehold and that's a banger for sure.
