Love me some vintage JH!...not that we have any other choice.

Playing the vid as I type this. Much enjoyable.

    Thanks, Brian!

Been a while since I looked up their stats, but they were making Bank before YT yanked out the rug on getting monitized.

    counting their money.

in a rare twist, i find reality funnier than my imagination. hard to believe "the fox" was released in 2013...

turns out, they're norwegien talk show hosts, a little more serious than saturday night live, but a little corny like it too. but they're far more successful than the entirety of tacomaworld...

Not to take your thread totally off topic, but it looks like you are a JH fan. You gotta watch this tribute band perform. If you're not looking it sounds exactly like Hendrix!

My uncle wanted a flag pole that could be lowered with easy to perform maintenance.

I used 2 1/2" channel for the base. The bottom is welded to an 8" x8" 1/4" plate then cemented in with 6 bags of ready mix.

The top of the pole has a 2" washer welded to the pipe. Before it was welded, I welded in a 1/2" bolt in case he wanted to top the plug pole with some sort of decoration.

48" up the base is a 1/2" for the pole pivot pin.

Near the ground, on the base, I welded a cheap hand operated worm drive winch. The cable end hook was removed and bolted the cable end to the bottom of the flag pole.

I used my cordless impact driver to turn the winch drive and thus raise the plug pole.

It works almost too good. I had to feather the trigger on the driver to slowly raise the flag pole. Otherwise it was wicked fast!

The design of a worm drive winch makes it nice since you have an automatic safety brake.

I think it turned out better than expected. All I had was a general idea in my head.

It is 25' tall with 38" of the base cemented into the ground.

I couldn't take it anymore. Who was I kidding thinking I could live with that screwed up gate.

I had to build a new one.

Got the decking and sides installed. 3/4" treated on the bottom and 1/2" on the sides.

My poor man's gate lift assist works amazing! The old idler pulleys and belt does the trick.

I still need to cut off the excess belt and the excess garage door spring.

Also couldn't stand my pieced together fenders. Cut those off and welded in new ones.

My OCD was never gonna let those old ones fly.

I really get annoyed with tail gates that rattle. There is a 1/2" nut welded to the top rail. The Z- bolt threads in and you snug it up. No rattles. You just have to be careful not cross thread them.

Winch is installed and is functional.

I disassembled the entire thing, motor, planetary gear assembly and the brake. Removed all the water infused grease and replaced it with a large amount of Kendall Super Blue.

Obviously I will not let the wiring remain like what you see.

I still need to source a battery box.

The Mart has battery boxes, under $10 for a group 24, under $15 for a group 27.
