OK, my brother told me his spare key will no longer start the truck, a 2012 DCSB TRD Sport Pre-runner... The seperate fob still works... I am assuming for some reason that the electronic code (transponder) in the key is no longer communicating with the vehicles engine immobilizer... No issues with the OEM key...

Is there a way to re-program the key without any "special" programming tools??

Everything i find is about programming a smart key or the remotes...

The key on the left works normal, the key on the right no longer starts the vehicle (crank no start), but the remote to it works normal...

The key on the RIGHT doesn't look to be a chipped key.
Are you sure that key ever started the truck? Maybe he is not remembering correctly.

    Easy way to tell.
Put the key in the ignition and see if the Security Light stops flashing.

I'm not too familiar with Starttec keys.
But every Non-chipped hey I've ever seen looks like the one on the right.
The chipped keys look like the one on the LEFT.

Somewhere on here, I even have a compression to an OEM key from my 2005 OEM key (non-chipped)
    And My 2007 OEM (Chipped)

FWIW, if you buy a new key.
You need on that matches the old key.
There should be a dot (.) or a G on the key.

The older ones had a .
Somewhere around 2011 or so they went to a G.
But make sure what one you have....

Then the key isn't communication with the Transponder ECM.
    Time for a new key......

Strange. As that key looks just like the Non-*chipped key

Does it have Remote Start on it?
