I have a general question about the 2024 Tacoma transmission issue. My 2024 Tacoma SR5 4x4 has 15k miles on it. When slowing down around 20mph and around 45mph it jerks (what seems to me the rear end area). I feels like a hard downshift and or someone rear ended me. It only does it sometimes not every time. The dealership mechanic says he doesn’t hear nor feel it when he drives it. So, I have did research and I searched my VIN and the number falls in the category of the transmission issue. My question is.. has anyone else had this particular issue with downshifting?

If I were a Technician, I'd inspect the transmission fluid level.
    But I'm not a tech.

It would also help if we knew what number TSB you are referring to above?

If it doesn’t throw a code they won’t do much.

Does it smooth out once the trans comes up to temp?

Are you referring to the Toyota "clunk" during deceleration. Every Tacoma I have ever owned does that. Most attribute that to the drive shaft not sliding smoothly on the output shaft splines that connect to the driveshaft.

    Baron 55,
Thanks for your input. It could be the drive shaft but it just started at 15,000 miles. I would imagine if that was normal it would have did it when I drove it off the lot with ac couple miles on it. This is my 3 Tacoma and I had a Tundra and none of them never did this. It feels like someone has hit you in the back.

    Gmak,
It does smooth out once the jolt is done.

    TNshooter,
I am referring to the 2024 Tacoma transmission issue.

If you haven’t already, drive it with the mechanic riding shotgun, and recreate the circumstances until it happens. If it literally feels like you’re being rear-ended, he should be able to diagnose it as abnormal, and the general source. Good luck.

Thanks Lunar, I have an appointment on Monday for them to ride. Hopefully this will get resolved. It’s crazy to me that they are so lackadaisical about this issue. From my understanding they didn’t connect the computer to it they just did a road test and dismissed it.

Yup mine does it, and all kinds other transmission issues. Toyota has done nothing to help, I paid to have the transmission pan dropped and fluid inspected. Fluid was clean and no debris.

This is crazy. I don’t buy brand new vehicles for issues and the dealership blows it off as it’s normal. I’m glad to hear someone else is going through the same thing.

There’s a bunch of people having transmission issues with these 4th gen’s, along with transmissions overheating in off-road conditions. There was one guy who filed a class action lawsuit against Toyota because his transmission is so screwed up, what he described is exactly what mine does. Does your truck ever shudder/vibrate and jerk and buck at slow speeds ?

It doesn’t do anything else besides the jolt at 20 and 44mph when slowing down. However, this could be the start of all the issues and I’m trying to get it fixed before it gets worst.

Hopefully you have better luck than me on getting it resolved. What region of the country are you in? I’m curious if you’ll end up dealing with the same “field technical specialist”

This was a thing on my 3G. Felt like something binding/kick from the rear in condition you describe. Went 90+K miles w/o a breakdown. Didn't even change the fluid. Never got worse.

I don't have it on my 4G and I fall in the TSB range. I can't even feel it shift. Have to check the tach.

Glad you’re not having this issue with your 4G. I didn’t have any issues until 15k miles which makes me concerned bc it wasn’t doing this for the first 15k.

On my 3G it was a problem from day one. Definitely take this as far as you can. Good luck.

So it won’t be resolved quickly because of the lemon law?
