Found my air compressor rusted out yesterday, so now im in the market. Does anyone have recommendations?

 

Ingersoll Rand. Shop HD, Tractor Supply, etc… oil less are noisemakers which I suggest you stay away from

You looking for a big 220V unit or like a portable?

I have a Harbor Freight 21 gallon and it does pretty much everything I need.

 

That is just the first pile of things to do this month, the things I actually want to do are farther back.

 

What are your needs & goals?

Wanting to blow up tires and occasionally using an impact to change a tire requires less of a machine than running a blast cabinet.

Here is an example of a Rolls Royce class air compressor, this is a gold standard machine that you can use to compare others too, most will fall short.
All cast iron
Tapered roller main bearings & replaceable bearings on the rods
Air operated disc valves



If you watch FBMP there are good deals on older HD compressors that with a bit of work have many years of service left.

A good commercial grade 2 stage reciprocating compressor will produce 3-4 cfm per horsepower at 175 psi, note many consumer compressors show a cfm at 40 psi, this is a worthless number used to try to look good -- you show me an impact gun that runs on 40 psi.

My youngest daughter is home from college for a few days and while mowing the lawn I kept looking over and seeing these ugly rims on her car.

 

Steelies! Prep and paint… look great.

 

So I took them off one at a time and cleaned them up. Primed and painted. Looks much better. Just need a new center cap for the back wheel.

Looking for about a 30ish gallon stand up

 

Currently looking at this this dewalt unit.

 

Needs would be running air tools like impacts, air hammers, airing up tires, possibly a paint gun. Longevity is definitely a factor. I like things to last
