Ive currently got a 3 inch lift in the truck. In the rear I have a 7 leaf pack of springs with OME nitrocharger shocks. Ive already got the shackle flip kit from marketplace months back and id like to install it for an upcoming off road trip.
Always talked about maybe doing mid travel suspension in the rear for shits and giggles and this seems to be the time since I need much longer travel for flip kit.
I just spent hours looking into it and determined I should ask for opinions. I plan on welding on new mounting locations on the frame.
Is there benefits to installing shocks with remote reservoirs? Is 12" Travel enough? Brands to buy?
Recommendations on this is greatly appreciated
    Thanks

So you are doing a "relocate"?

Remote reservoirs will allow you the option for compression damping adjusters... They'll cost you though (especially if you go with 2.5 shocks). But if you have variable weight loads (and/or variable offroad driving styles) they might be worth having.

As for shock length (travel), unless you can find someone else with your exact same setup who can give you measurements, you'll likely need to take measurements for that yourself after you get the flip kit on.

I have Fox (AccuTuned) on mine and am happy with them (not running a flip kit though). King is another that is good. Bilstein has some comparable options as well if you go up the ladder a ways.

I have an archive garage shock relocation kit, and their hammer hangers. I can't say enough good things about it. The hammer hangers were done later and I am shocked at how much they improved ride quality. I doubted the hype and I am now a firm believer.

If you are looking for pure performance then maybe a shackle flip makes sense for other spring styles, otherwise the hammer hangers are pure bliss. Install is a bear though. removing the rivets is not easy.

Ill just go ahead and do the job this week then and measure. Cant imagine I would run into any issues driving on the road with struts that arent long enough

Honestly I bought the shackle flip kit a year ago for a good deal on marketplace. The reason I am finally wanting to do it now is because I have a big trip coming up that I should probably have rear lockers for buuuut I dont and this is sitting around. I am told that with it I might get lucky on some of the obstacles having extra droop

Might mess up your ride quality, but no, no damage should come from it (to the truck anyway, not sure about the shocks though).
How much more lift are you expecting from the flip (if any)?

Back before BAMF and archive came up with the modified "hammer hangers" that are currently available and everyone loves, I ran the original version of the archive garage shackle flip with both a set of OME heavy duty springs and a custom built set of alcans with both 3.5 and 4" shackles. I was never really impressed with the results.

I am not a suspension expert, and I had no idea what i was doing back then, but based on my experiences, if youre going to stick with stock mounting locations, the springs are going to be the limiting factor. With both the OMEs and the alcans and there was no compelling reason to go beyond a 12" shock, maybe even 10". The droop wasn't there. If you're willing to dick around with shock tower relocate and new tabs on the axle, then you might be able to utilize a longer shock, but keep in mind that with the flip kit you might just be stuck giving yourself more up travel and be putting the springs into a negative arch situation. I ran the bilstein b110s in the stock location, which are only a 10" shock, and eventually put a 2 inch bump stop drop to prevent too much negative arch. At the end of the day, I'm not sure what I actually accomplished for all that effort and money. I didnt get the droop i thought I would and had to limit up travel.

Original install of the flip and billies, standard OMEs leaf springs:

When i did the OME AAL (making it into their old HD setup) and bump stop drop added later:

Billies: Bump stop drops: If you really want to run the flip kit, i would say install it and droop the axle without the shocks attached and see where youre at as far as travel. Then you'll realize that what you really want is chevy 63s with 14s. :stirthepot:
