2024 Tacoma Issue

I also have this around 15 mph when downshifting, feels like a kick from the rear. I also noticed that when I'm cruising under 1500 rpm when I take my foot off the gas and get back on there is a noticeable thud/clunk that can be felt through the driveline. Almost like there is slack in the driveline that's being taken out by getting back on the gas.

 

Good to know. I am supposed to be driving with the dealership master mechanic today and hopefully they will own up to the issue.

 

Think it’s a characteristic of the truck .. you should see how bad the manual is lol

 

That’s Toyotas excuse for everything “normal characteristic” even if you can prove that 100 other exact same trucks don’t have the issue …nah still normal characteristic

 

I was told the same before I traded mine in. “Normal”

 

It’s their famous BS they tell customers.

 

This sounds so much like the FJ cruiser that I had.Sometimes right before you came to a stop,it felt like someone bumped you.It was discussed a lot on the FJCruiser forum if anyone is interested.They concluded that it was the slip yoke in the drive shaft.Some guys started greasing it,I never did and drove it for 12 years,it never got any worse.

I had the same problem start at around 8k. Took it in, did a ride along but nothing. They checked the computer for codes and inspected the trans fluid. Nothing came up. They told me if it gets worse to bring it back in. The jolting loud cluncks and harsh downshifts lasted for for at least 4 weeks and slowly went away. I recently did 2k mile trip and nothing so far.

 

Could be the slip yoke I can feel it in my Ford mostly on take off and some axle wrap. It goes away with something in the bed and the suspension is settled. It comes back after the truck goes on the lift to get the oil changed. It's got about 3/4" lift on top of a lot of rake. Point being it's not the transmission as it can be felt in the rear and I can feel and hear a difference by adjusting throttle input upon take off. Clunky downshifts definitely feel different than the slip yoke. Of course I have no idea what's going on with the 4G Tacoma transmission or other wise.

 

Outside of legitimate transmission issues. Are you drifting to a stop with no input from the accelerator? Toyotas might be different but the F-150 likes some rpms when down shifting.

I feel it buck on decel to a stop. I think its because its programmed to be in higher gears than it should be for EPA MPG.
