Had a WTF a moment today, pulled a u turn and didn’t have enough space to complete the turn, so I had to stop and back up a little then go. When I did this, it felt like something shifted/slid forward. I screwed around and seemed to be able to make it do this when going forward then backwards and also backwards then forward. Hopefully I’ll have time to look at it tomorrow evening, any suggestions on what to look at specifically? It does make a thud type noise, doesn’t sound like metal on metal. The first thing I am thinking is to check the LCA bolts, but this seems different.

I don’t think it’s the brake pads, I just dropped 700 bucks on replacing them.

not sure on the slip joint.

    Edit:removed the stupid explanation,

Sounds like the front or back? Have someone stand next to the truck and see if you can get the truck to make the noise.

We do that at work a lot. It's the only way to pinpoint a noise. Sitting in the car makes it a little difficult.

A lot more travel, something like 4” more at the shock means a lot more at the tire. Ride quality isn’t changed if the shocks are identical other than length.

My first thought was brake pads too - because it's the easiest. If you FELT it move then it might not be the brake pads. But the pads are not a super tight fit, they shift when they go forward/backward @InCogNeatOh Parts so there's a chance you're hearing that. Even new ones. They just shift a bit in the discs and you hear that clunk. It's a subtle clunk and I've never "felt" it.

Quick question. This VW Hill I keep hearing about. It's in New Hampshire?
