I replaced both wheel hubs. Both axles for extended travel axles and one steering knuckle that was bent.
I had someone help me that I should have paid much more attention to. And he damaged the inner wheel seal, axle seal. So I guess the question is, why is it still leaking? What do I do about it?And do you think I need to replace my brand new extended travel axle because of this little thing you see in the picture

That part that's broken is the dust shield for the CV joint itself. That won't be the cause of the leaking diff fluid. So you have 2 problems here.

Yes that part should be fixed/replaced. You probably don't need to replace the whole axle, but it does need to be rebuilt with a new dust seal.

Now, for the leaking diff fluid... It's likely that they damaged the diff seal when replacing the axle (it happens). That seal will need to be replaced, which means pulling the axle out again. And be careful about how far the new one is pushed in if this is the driver side, if you keep pushing it in until it bottom out, it will be too far. Don't forget to top up the diff fluid after.

That was what made me think that torn part of the axle was causing it because I did indeed replace the axle seal. It slowed down .... but still driping

I had a similar issue and after about 3 seals I replaced the “reman” cv with another one and finally it stopped

If its a new seal then chances are it was pushed in too far when installing. I did the same thing once too. Normally for seals like that you would just keep going till it bottoms out but the drivers side one is weird. If you go till bottom out that's too far in. You want it to stick out about 1mm from flush or else the the lip doesn't sit tight against that shiny part on the axle. The trick is doing that while also making sure it's even all the way around.

I found the perfect size metal cup to use. I did go until it stopped but this is on the passenger side not the driver side.
I think I even put it in the right way...maybe ill do it again when the replacement axle comes.
Maybe i dont put it in as far as it goss... the flange thing on the seal goes tword the fluid i wanna keep in right?
    What is q ""reman" c

Yeah the passenger side is different. You can go until it bottoms out on that side. This side (shown in picture) should face outward toward the axle.

Reman means re-manufactured or refurbished. Sometimes those or aftermarket axles will have a shaft that is slightly less in diameter which would make it so the diff seal isn't as tight as it needs to be. That could be your issue as well if the diff was seal was done correctly.

I change the diff seal everytome i do an axle, peace of mind for the extra $15-$20 seal.

East coast gear supply has a seal driver that will work for both sides.

Well if you really are 100% sure that that side goes tword the axle then I may have it in backwards.
I belive i was told the "gator spring" had to face a certain way (dont remember now). The axle is a brand new one, it is am extended travel axle so after market yes. Ill re do the seal when I put in the replacement they are sending me

Yeah that'll do it! 100% the rubber lip faces the axle. I just did my passenger side this month.

Grease the outside and inside of the seal, dab some grease on the spring on 5he seal, run your finger around the diff hole with the seal out feeling for any brrs, and hit it with a light sand if there is any.

Grease the cv shaft splines and shaft going into the diff. Use a bungi3 corder to support the axle as you tap it into place. Shove it in the hole gently and evenly just like a, well you know.

Hmm. Yeah could be the shaft on the axle being a bit too small. Or the seal was pushed in too far. Doesn't necessarily mean you pushed it in any further than stock though, that could also be related to the axle. But I would still maybe not go in quite as far this time so that lip makes good contact with the axle.

Was the surface really clean that makes contact with the outer part of the bearing , smooth no grooves or burrs . Also when you put the new one in what did you use to push it in ?
