While I don't want to look a gift hitch in the mouth, the u-bolt stripped while I was adjusting it to fit my Taco, then snapped in half in my hands. I spent several hours failing to find quality replacements at three different hardware stores near me, but the more I think about it, the more I question whether I want to replace those bolts or just get a better quality unit. If I can snap a bolt in half with just a wrench, is the hitch going to survive 4000lbs tugging on it at highway speed?

So, yeah, I'm doing some research and will certainly check out the Curt.

Oh, I like the looks of that! Dealer installed a crappy curt WDH that is underrated for the size of our Bigfoot. I didn’t know anything back in the day and it worked fine for the towing we did with it. Now days I have a 1-ton Chevy and just use a regular hitch. Have been thinking about getting a heavier duty WDH for when I load the long bed up with dirtbikes.

Took the Bigfoot out for Labor Day weekend. Decided to camp Sunday- Tuesday. Best decision ever! No traffic on Sunday and all the campers left Monday(Labor Day) to go home. Had the campground and lake front beach practically to ourselves most of the day Labor Day and no traffic heading home on Tuesday.

 

No problem, yeah I wouldn’t feel great about that either, that is not something you want to fail going down the hwy. The one I’m running is a curt 17601

 

Am I missing something? I'd always use a cheap power drill (keep it in the trailer) to put the stab jacks up and down. As someone else mentioned, I did also always lube the jacks every spring with lithium grease, so they were in good condition/not rusted and easy to turn.

 

Many people including myself use a drill or impact driver. Other people consider it rude to ratta-tat-tat the stabilizers in the early hours.


I try my best to avoid camping around others. But on the few occasions where I do... while you hate my 90 seconds of drilling, I really did not appreciate your hours of loud television last night, so there.

 

I used to use an impact when I didn’t know any better. Then I saw someone online mention a drill does the same thing without the racket. Definitely a duh moment. Now I use a drill and enjoy the silence. I get a kick out of hearing people use their impact now, everytime I am like if only they knew. Don’t think anything less of them, if it works it works.

 

Some of the poor people can only afford one Milwaukee tool so they opt for the impact since it's more versatile.

The GeoPro is such a gorgeous camper. We toured several versions at the local camping show a couple of weeks ago and wow, just stunning inside and out. Great pick!

 

I asked on Reddit, but wanted to follow up here as it's a tad more active. For those who use the Equal-i-zer 4p, how do you like it? I have a a chance to buy the 600TW/6000GVRW one for about 20% off, but slightly concerned that the hitch may be a bit heavy (adding to the already 480lbs hitch for our camper).

BUT, I like the idea of 4 point of sway control and the discount puts it close to many of the 2p hitches.

So what do you 4p users think? Overkill? Goldilocks? Something better to replace our questionable Haul Master one?

 

Different truck and bigger trailer but I'm really happy with mine.

I don't have any experience towing without it or with a different hitch to compare it to, though.

 

Ive been happy with mine. Different camper but pretty close to your hitch weight. But Ive used it with out 2004 Sequoia and now our Silverado and its worked great.

Cant really compare to any others but I found it easy enough to set up and have towed 15k plus miles with it now. My only complaint is it can get squeeky. But that is also easy to fix by just adding a bit of grease where the bars "pivot" at the hitch. Seems like thats a every 600 miles or so sort of deal.

 

I've got a classic Forest River pop-up camper that's been in my family for years. It's not the fanciest, but it's served us well on countless camping adventures. I saw such vehicles on etrailer, so they are still popular. The compact size and easy set-up make it perfect for weekend getaways. Sure, it lacks some of the bells and whistles of newer models, but the nostalgia makes it priceless.

I posted in this thread so long ago but figured I'd update as we've been on so many trips now it feels like ages ago. Here are a few of my favorites. Dinosaur PP in Alberta, Lake Louise in Alberta and finally a small spot called Prairie Creek which we go to every year.

 

Drove 3800+ miles to Rice Texas and back over 11 days. 6 dofferent RV parks or RV campgrounds on the way back. Without doubt, the RV campgrounds were 100% better.


Hitched up for the first time.



Coronado campground, outside Albuquerque. Great place with awesome views on the banks of the Rio Grande.






RV park in Flagstaff. We stayed 2 days to rest and enjoy the cooler weather. Spots were very close together, but everyone was quiet and friendly. Flagstaff reminded us of Lake Tahoe and we really liked it. Almost as expensive as Tahoe. Found 2 awesome restaurants, and no lie, best pizza I've ever had (Fat Olives).



Brite lake at Tehachapi. Great campground away from any roads. All rhe spots were far apart.
