I bought a new can of Taxxas metallic silver at a swap meet...5 or 6 bodies ago for a buck. I still haven't used it as I feel safe with Tamiya paint. I do wish Tamiya made more though.

Agreed. Their pallette should change or update but I get it, it's probably a big manufacturing cost to add colors or change them. I'm going to give Core RC a try, if it's an issue, well then I'm starting over ;)

But I'm trying to improve my body game so this is good practice anyways.

I have never heard anyone having issues with Duratrax paint. I guess I'd try it on a body you don't care about, or a body that, if it turns out good you can use, if it turns out bad, who cares. The practice is good anyways to get better skills.

I used to airbrush a lot and did bodies for a handful of racers who paid me in beer. LOL. Back then I used mostly Faskolor then switched to Createx acrylic paints. For chrome bits I used Spaz Stix. But once my son started taking 1/8 off road racing more seriously (nitro and electric) I backed off on my own racing to support his game. At that point I set the airbrush aside and went full rattle can with Tamiya paints. Fast forward five years and my son is completely out of the hobby. :( I still haven't picked up another airbrush, but I still use Tamiya and Spaz Stix. I haven't tried other brands recently, although I did use Pactra cans "back in the day" with good results. I'm not sure who has the Pactra formulas now, although I thought it was Duratrax.

BTW, when I did test sprays or practiced, I used clear plastic from 2-liter bottles.

    RC updates over here

    • Finally received the Holmes motor for the C2X, hoping to install tomorrow
    • Done some other odds and ends to the C2X mostly on the appearance front which should be fun once it's back together
    • Ordered and received the 72mm Injora Pins for the AX24 but might return them, don't love 'em (no different from how I felt last time I ordered them)
    • Ordered new inserts for the 72mm DJCrawler psycho death looking tires, and I'm planning to put them back on the FCX24 and take it on the beach vacation in a few weeks so hopefully they work well

The first few were airbrushed bodies I've done for friends. The Grand National was rattle canned and the only decals on it are the lights and grill. The ones with Advan-style stripes are either mine or my son's. We have the same race livery, but mine is orange/blue and his is green/purple.

I've got a 956 I think I'm going to farm out for a Pink/Race Pig paint job possibly.

I used to fly RC planes back in the early 2000's. I still like to build them, I just don't fly any more. Lately though, I thought about a truck or rock crawler just to have something to amuse myself with in my old age (I'm 71). Having once owned a Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser when I was in my 20's (see my avatar), and not able today to afford a restored one, I saw a 1/6 scale FJ40 on the web and decided to get it. It's advertised as 1/10 scale but the dimensions are closer to 1/6-1/7. I've already done a bunch of mods to it such as replace the 4-link suspension with leaf springs like the full-size had. Other things like a winch and tow rings and hooks, better wheels and tires than came on it, a better ESC and a transmitter and receiver with more channels to support accessories. I also found a small "utility " flatbed trailer for it and have built an off-road camper out of it with an elevated tent platform. I still have things I plan to do, such as a full roll cage and modify how the top is attached so I can easily remove and install it, plus make the windshield so it can be swung up or down. I also need to find a "driver" for it but most of the action figures I see are too large or too small to fit the scale. I may do what one youtuber did and make one of the 12" figures a bit shorter by trimming the leg and arm lengths a little.

I do. I have one crawler body for sale and I'm buying 2 more bodies tomorrow to keep me occupied. I don't do air brush though. The first can is $20, and it goes up from there.

I never saw one exactly that color from the factory unless it might have been one of the last years it was imported (1984 was the last year in the US). A friend of mine had a '73 full size that was a lighter shade of blue This RC model is based on 1973-1974 model year of the full size. I had a 1976 model (see the avatar) that was forest green and had several differences over the early 70's trucks. They went from 3-speed on the floor in 1974 to a 4-speed in 1975, and instead of a lift gate and half-doors like the model, mine had two full length doors. That said, the model has excellent scale appearance and is licensed by Toyota.

Here you go. Two colors available.
    https://www.fmshobby.com/products/fms-1-10-toyota-land-cruiser-fj40-rs

It is your basic RC crawler, has a 1060 ESC and brushed motor, full-time 4WD with lockers front and rear. The Tx and Rx are 3-channel. I kept the brushed motor but changed to a 1080 ESC, went to a 7-channel Tx and Rx so I could add more stuff, like a winch and a sound module and full lights. The headlights come on when you turn on the Rx, but that's all. The parking lights, tail lights and side markers are set up for LED's but don't have them. Measure for your battery, space is a bit limited but you can still install one that will give you an hour or more of run time. The chassis is a steel frame with plastic inserts and pretty solid, and has a 4-link suspension, but is upgradable to leaf springs if you want something closer to scale. Hood, doors and rear hatch/half doors open and latch closed. There is a steering servo and a smaller second servo that turns the steering wheel. Interior detail is really good and the body is hard ABS; all windows have "glass". There are a bunch of Youtube videos showing upgrades and this thing will climb like a cat. It uses 1.9" wheels and tires. $350 for the truck, Tx and RX/ESC, all you need is a battery to run it. Upgrading the ESC, Tx and Rx open up a bunch of possibilities and improved performance from programming.
