Swapped out the tg steering joints for Borgeson. Much better quality and steering feels way better.

 

This and the steering column tack weld tightened up steering tremendously.

 

Both made a significant difference. Now if I could take the play out of the Toyota box lol

I've looked at a few options, nothing really stands out as a "good" fix.
Top results are either a new TG Flow box, buy oem rebuild kit to re-seal, or Red Head boxes.
Leaning towards the red head but lately I've seen some hit or miss reviews on quality. Really liked their approach on machining and placing new sized bearings, etc.

 

I haven’t looked much into complete new boxes, probably should.. the seal at my pitman arm has been on and off leaking since I built the truck lol. I’ve been hearing quite of a bit of people starting to run jeep boxes on them though. My tj I had before had literal perfect steering with the full psc kit

 

I bought a Redhead box, they are local to me so I can drive to their shop. I had some self inflicted troubles with my steering and I had the box completely torn apart. They still covered a new seal install and bench tested it for me under warranty. My experience with them has been excellent.

 

Are you tack welding at the set screw on the shaft? I’m constantly thinking of the steering shaft and connections.

 

How much better IYHO? A buddy swap his TG for Borgeson and it felt the same to me so I been holding off spending $160 for the same performance.

 

I didn’t, if you look back I posted a photo of tacking the factory shaft.

 

My tg ones are noticeably loose after 2 years. This was night and day for me. I don’t feel like I’m chasing the truck to track straight anymore.

 

Mine I could rotate the steering shaft every so slightly and see the small u joints rocking back and forth. New borgeuson ones I did a tack weld at each cap, they were already much tighter. TG ones used and indent to "hold" in place.

 

Borgeson uses the indent method too but their ujoints are better. I thought about a tac bead on each cap but the thin, flimsy cap metal scares me because it might burn a hole instead. The TG steering joints look like it was piece together by a 10y/o with random metals.

 

I remember those 4 indents now, your right.
Just a nice easy tack, nothing crazy. I'll see if I can find a picture of mine.

 

No issue so far but a small weld x4 per joint shouldn’t hurt
