I’ve always thought as long as the car has Bluetooth, than all you really need is a solid phone mount. Phones always going to beat infotainment so just get it mounted somewhere easy to see and use

 

Yeah I lean the same way and I'm not snobby about car audio as it is. Had a few people mention how nice CarPlay is to have, but I can't get excited about it. The Beat-Sonic reuses the factory screen, just adds mirroring from what I can tell. Maybe its from driving older stuff but getting a phone mount and using bluetooth is fine. Rather spend money elsewhere.

 

My thoughts as well.
Saw that Gamiviti makes a dash mount that replaces a factory speaker cover. I can use my old Ram mounts. Seems good enough for what I need.

Save for the snobby audio for home use

 

Yeah. Mine sounds fine as is, and doesn't have the fancy Mark Levinson that higher trims have or that people have optioned/ordered.
Those higher trim systems are usually bass heavy anyway it seems, for whatever reason.

I have a CarPlay head unit in my daily. I mostly use it for navigation--I don't listen to music much in the car. I'd say CarPlay isn't worth much in a daily driver unless you go wireless. Wired is fine if you only care about nav on long trips, but you'll get real tired of constantly plugging and unplugging the phone for 20 minute drives around town.

That said, my Tacoma doesn't have CarPlay and I rarely miss it. It's a neat trick but a well-placed phone mount is somewhere between 80-120% as good depending on your mood and preferences.

I have the Mark Levinson system in my Wife's Lexus.... it aint that great. its not bad, but not anything to write home about. plus, if the amp goes out your paying like 2500 bucks to get a replacement.
