The v6 is not week , the v6 is a shorter stroke over Square motor and doesn’t make high torque numbers at low rpm . For a naturally aspirated v6 it actually makes decent power . I’m not really sure what people expect from a smaller truck on a full frame that’s high up and weighs what it does . But I think people these days are spoiled . Turbos do feel great from seat of pants but Let’s just hope all that extra power doesn’t come with a cost when the miles pile on .As far as the auto trans goes for sure the programming could have been better, but overall reliability it really doesn’t have many issues .I look at all the trucks now , and they are leaps and bounds better than what I drove when I was much younger. You were lucky to get a carpet in a truck . Roll down windows , no ac , no rear defroster, 3 speed on the column, and burned a quart of oil every two days . Not to mention leaked oil from everywhere . When you did any kind of work on those trucks you were covered in grease and oil. When I get in my truck now , 2019 it’s already 6 years old but to me it looks and feels amazing . It also has been super reliable which is what I put at the top of my list . With all that said I do like the 4 th Gen Tacoma , I think it looks super aggressive , and so far it looks like it is turning out to be a good truck .

Just my opinion, but arguing for a V6 over the current turbo 4 is kinda silly. Neither is gonna be a towing beast, but both get you where you need to go. I dunno, maybe I'm biased as a lifelong fan of turbo powerplants and 80s Japanese cars...

That said, some of the stories I've heard first hand are a little disconcerting when it comes to build quality.

If you're serious about a new truck, I'd test drive a Frontier Pro-4x and a Tacoma and really think about what you like more (we know what the current trends tell you is better). I'm a Toyota guy but I've also owned a lot of Nissans and actually traded in a 2015 Quest for my Tacoma. It had 215,000 trouble free miles, one of the best cars I ever owned.

Also, where I live, the Toyota dealers have quite a few trucks on the lot, with many of them actually discounted. Maybe that's not the norm, from what I'm reading here...

The real question is do u need a new truck or just wanting something new … the 4th gen has had some recalls but nothing serious like the tundra with engine failures.
IMO if the older truck is trouble free drive it till it is then get rid of it .

Why do you think the trucks being overpriced and having known issues has any impact on sales? Wasn't every 2024 truck subject to the brake line recall, including some 25s? I still hear many people comment on the price of the trucks compared to the out going 23s. Tacomas and midsize trucks in general are overpriced compared to fullsize trucks. Compare a Tacoma hybrid to a F-150 XL or Ram Tradesman where you get a twin turbo six cylinder large screen and more fuel capacity or range. You will always get less truck for the money with a midsize. Again that has no impact on midsize or Tacoma sales. The only thing that can slow Tacoma sales will be people's ability to buy them. I'm seeing more SR bug trucks on the road than Pros or Trailhunters which I haven't seen a single one. I actually see more Ranger Raptors and GM halo trucks on the road but I think that is all because of production numbers.

I was looking at the Ford dealer about two weeks ago and thought the lot still doesn't look like it did before 2019 I don't think any lot is going to have that kind of inventory on hand ever again. Last week they did have a few new Mavericks and what looked like more vehicles like a few shipments made it there over the prior week.

Layoffs buyouts and hiring freezes are terms I hear being discussed every week. Whether or not that has any impact on new vehicles is to be determined.

Liking this ten times over cause of the mistaken genners trying to gaslight everyone. Like we don't see what we see, experienced what we experienced. That powertrain was a wreck.

Almost like Toyota went into a fever dream on the mistaken gen. Woke up. shook the hangover out, and decided to build real truck.

Selective perception on your part. My 4G beats the build quality of my discarded mistaken gen from the frame up.

It most likely varies from dealer to dealer, but my local dealer is non-commission straight salary sales with an equalized bonus based on quarter and year end sales. They are also one of the Toyota dealerships that has not added upcharges to certain vehicles. For instance, if you purchase a Pro, or as I have also observed, a rare example of a Supra (2024 GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition), you pay MSRP. I also asked if there was any sales advantage to the dealer or sales team associated with financing. The answer was no. "We get paid to sell vehicles". When I told the salesperson I was paying cash with a personal check, he said, "What a baller!". We both chuckled. I asked these questions because, as I make clear to anyone I am asking, I was a salesperson, and I am always interested in how people make money, particularly salespeople with "sales plans and objectives".

I have one of the earliest 2024 taco’s in my area (Vancouver, Canada) and people always say it’s best to skip the first model production year but my truck has been great. I’ve owned it for a year and the only negative thus far is the brake line recall. Other than that I’m very happy, so happy in fact that I might pick up a new 2027 4Runner next year. :D

Cool thing is you can slide into either vehicle w/o having to remap your brain. If I needed a second vehicle that is exactly what I would get also.
