Hello all, to those who are interested in an app for your collection. This is for you.
Based on my research I have found a number of apps that assist collectors with tracking/managing their collection. However none are purely image based.
My thought was it would be quicker/ easier to build based on image recognition rather than typing searches, numbers and barcode lookups (as those of us who open our hot wheels don’t have barcodes). Pair the image with a couple words like “white 2017 4Runner” and it has a backup you can search for when you find a new hot wheel.
An AI that asks if it got it right would allow for users to teach the app overtime therefore improving its accuracy for everyone.
I couldn’t find any pure image based search apps that let you log a collection but if y’all know of any let me know.
    Just brainstorming

Image searches are going to be subject to flaws. What i mean by that is I have two fire trucks that are identical except they have different wheels. An AI based in images would have a difficult time picking up on that.

There are currently no apps that work across the board. I have a few ideas and I'll keep working on it until I'm satisfied.

What do you want the AI to be able to do? Differentiate sure, but why? Once you get wayyyyy down in the weeds either your going to realize that AI outperforms you or it doesn’t .
If your goal is to avoid duplicates in your collection there is no need for the AI to be so precise that it can tell the wheels are different, it’s job is to show you possible matches at which point you yourself can differentiate.
Sure in a perfect world it would be able to do all of the identification for us.
But it’s denying a socket wrench ( assists you but still requires you to work) in hope of an impact wrench (does it all for you), the socket wrench is better than using your hands.
Hypothetical of course, when would good enough be good enough?

This is where my brain went… a DB of your collection (stock images would suffice for basis), and the AI to offer relevant matches between the current photo/image and your collection. There are often variants that only you can decide are worth adding to your collection.

I’m finally down to one bin of “in-hand”… everything else is on the wall. I ordered one more set of clear rails (a little wider at 5.5” to accommodate the dragster rails I have and those I got from @RLMoody. I need to take some pictures of his in the collection.

I try not to collect the busses but if it’s from Kaido house, then I might have to get one or two.
