Alignment/Balancing Question

Next week I will install my front shocks and UCA's and then take it in for an alignment. Should the alignment be done with the STOCK rims/wheels, or with the NEW rims/wheels?

Also, if you had to choose where to get the alignment/balancing done, would you go with the place you bought the tires from (Goodyear), a Firestone shop, or a local performance shop that specializes in aftermarker rims and other items?

It doesn't matter if you get the alignment with your stock wheels and tires or your new ones.

 

Good to know...I have heard differently, but I will take advise from experts everyday.
So it would probably let the Goodyear place that have my tires go ahead and swap the TPMS out of the stock wheels, and build up the new ones, install and align all at once.

Also, want to pick up a set of locking lugs for my new wheels (MotoMetal 955 - 7x9)
Is there a certain set/size needed to work with these rims, and where can I pick them up?

You need 12x1.5 lug nuts, conical seat. Wheelers offroad has a bunch

 

So will the all locking set in the weblink work?

Yep as long as the rim seat thickness is bigger than the shank on the lugs.

 

Not exactly sure what you mean, they are the same as shown on website you pointed my at earlier..just these are all locking lugs.

Yep I just want to make sure that the shank isn't too long. I.e. when you install the lugs will, the skinny part actually be hitting the hub so the lug nut doesn't seat all the way.

These are extended thread, so I want to make sure you have enough extra thread for them..

 

i dont know if it matters to you but firestone offers a lifetime alignment as long as you own the truck for like 169 i got mine on sale for 149 and i just took it in for an alignment repeatedly till it was 100% and anytime i change out a suspension part they will check it up for me and adjust and im in and out no problem... i like it and i like the fact that i can do it whenever and not pay another 80 bucks

 

I'm not sure where you got your information from... Every time you change your lift height, put on new tires, or replace suspension parts, get an alignment.
Why would you trust your old alignment, which has been subject to shocks and vibrations, to new/expensive tires? That alone should be reason enough.

 

If you change the suspension components, then you absolutely need an new alignment. I never said he didn't need one for the suspension change...

But just changing tires sizes doesn't affect your alignment in the least. And I wouldn't consider an alignment he got a week before the new tires to be an "old alignment".

Say your alignment was good with your old tires i.e. zero toe, zero camber. ....how would putting a new, bigger tire on change any of those wheel angles? You could put 40's on and the toe and camber would still be zero.

 

If you recently had an alignment done? None is needed. If not, then yes. Odds are good that after 6 months, your alignment is off slightly, at least. Some places will do an alignment check for free with new tires.
I agree that angles don't change between tire sizes. I should have been more specific

 

Alright we're on the same page then. I thought what he was asking was once he installs the lift, can he get an alignment right after that, or does he have to wait for the new tires to come in, and I was just telling him he doesn't need to wait for the new tires, he can get it aligned right after the lift.
