Good question. Grip? Not sure. But it's a lot harder to hold off 2 sharks than 1 that's for sure. Sometimes if P4 is close enough that help you out with a 234 battle but the McLarens were just too strong again.

I hope Oscar beats Lando for the title and we don't get any team orders late the season.

When you look at the field it's like McLaren and everyone else. It's crazy.

The official word is that it's a chassis issue and they're going to investigate if something broke (it didn't). If you look at the telemetry and listen to Charles' radio messages you can get a much better idea of what happened...

The car was fast until that final stint and then it was flat out dog shit. Oscar gained 37 seconds in just 30 laps on that stint and Charles was yelling on the radio about not adjusting the front wing when they put that last set of tires on and turned into a turtle. That wasn't the issue though, he actually walked that back and apologized to the crew in the post race presser.

The real issue is the same thing that has plagued these Ferraris since day one: ride height.

Once again they set the car up super low (hence the shock pole) but what this resulted in during the actual race program was excessive plank wear. They knew this was going to be an issue so they were running a higher tire pressure from the jump but it became obvious after that 2nd stop that they wouldn't make the checkered flag without getting DQ'd (remember China?)

So because they were monitoring that excessive plank wear they decided to run a different engine mode to preserve the plank. This causes the engine to clip in the areas of the track that grind the plank the most, in this case on the high speed straights, in particular the very end of the straight. Ironically that's exactly the areas of the track where the car was gaining time.

Basically they had a decision to make, run the different engine mode, preserve the plank knowing you're going to be slow and hope for a safety car...or get DQ'd in scrutineering for excessive plank wear.

    TLDR: they Ferrari'd

It's so frustrating, they whiffed on this from the get go and the half-assed fixes have done nothing. LOL at the new rear suspension, Lewis looks like his rear end is on banana peels. The reality is there's no quick fix for this, when you miss on something so crucial it basically requires an entire redesign of the car's geometry and given the fact that new regs are coming at the end of the season they've pretty much punted and the strategy is throw shit at it and hope we get lucky.

Coming out of summer break dueling with the Mercs for 2nd in the constructors is really a testament to how Charles and Lewis have performed on Sundays, but with that being said there are some folks in Maranello who really need to get their shit together this winter.

I love Freddy but I'm pretty disappointed in how this is going and it's a bit comical they just signed him to an extension this week.

If Lando made as many mistakes as he did last week he’d have been standing on that second step. Glad he managed to keep it together!

Way to go Bordoleto and Lawson for finishing ahead of Max, good job!

At this point in the season and with the new car and regs next season, it is... Who cares?

Changes, at least meaningful changes aren't happening.

Two McLarens. 21 seconds later, one Mercedes. 21 seconds after that, one Ferrari. 19 seconds after LEC came ALO in his Aston Martin.

    Those are pit-stop-sized gaps. Wow.

But that really isn't that surprising, Not because of how Slow the other cars possibly might have been, but also because of traffic and the DRS train that hold the pack of cars up from moving forward. Not to mention a lot of cars do get held up after going through the lapping process and because of the ongoing fight that they have right in front of them, they don't necessarily see the Blue Flag that they should be seeing to let the others by.

They see it, just like they see yellows and reds, they just don't comply until they absolutely have to if they are fighting for position.

oh I know......that is why I stated "they don't necessarily see the Blue Flag that they should be seeing" because they have seen it, and even been most likely reminded over the radio, and still choose the fight their own position battle .

Yup, in the cost cap era I think you could make an argument that it's fiscally irresponsible to burn money on what would at best be marginal gains.
