Cropped six-ways to Sunday. With the 400 it would have been a cleaner shot.

 

So with the sensor crop factor is that 100-400 actually a 150-600mm?

 

I reckon it is.

The image was shot with a 55-200. I used Topaz to bring it to life. I reckon the Grizz was 50 yards away.

Yellowstone is on the list of places to go. We may try and make it happen after the kids go back to school.

Haven’t seen this photo since the day I shot it did think about sending it into the Estes Park newspaper but never did anything about it.

 

Judging by your IG you’re getting incredibly sharp shots with that lens. Was it a Tamron or Sigma?

 

The IG images are mostly from the Nikon D7200 and the Sigma 100-400.
A few are from the Tokina 11-16.

I rented both the Tampon (Tamron) and the Sigma and kept the Sigma.

 

Wife and I loaded up the little camper, did a 16-day multi-state excursion in 2019 end of June into July.
Night temps in YellowStone hit 39 degrees on July 3.... it's chilly at night.!

There is NO cell service, the place is WILD. Do NOT get caught with your azz hanging in the wind in YellowStone
it is no joke. Massive land area full of beasts.

Don't forget to spend a good Day and a half in the Tetons - it's quite powerful.

Good to know how prepared we need to be.
September should be even chillier at night then, brrr.
We bought this TT when we left HI in Nov’21 and intended to just cruise to Sedona AZ and relocate but ended up not liking the area and then proceeded to roam lost for an unintended total of 2 years and 15k miles. We did go back to Goodyear AZ in May of ‘23 to try AZ again and spent 4 months in a house during the stupidly hot summer, that really did make us decide AZ was not for us

 

What's not to like, except the tourists... and the cost of housing there.

And yea, I live in Phoenix, it's hotter than hot here in the summer and 2023 as I recall was brutal.

We suffer mid-June through Mid-September but man oh man the other 8-9 months are bliss.
No ice, no snow, no freezing cold, not tornado's, no hurricanes, no quakes, very little rain, no bugs, ...

 

I agree there is lots to like about AZ, I'm more of a Flagstaff person than Phoenix. If Phoenix then it would be NE for us, nearer Scottsdale for the business and away from the airbase, that jet traffic noise in Goodyear was annoying. However we did enjoy the over 55 lifestyle in PebbleCreek (we're not over 55 though).

Apart from the usual heat to dislike, the driving and traffic was the main thing that really irked us. The freeways are crazy and the run up to Flagstaff was ridiculous. In an ideal world the housing prices would normalize and we could afford to live in Flagstaff and PHX to then be able to work the wedding seasons. But that I17 would not be fun to do frequently.

Yes '23 summer was silly, broke the record for consecutive number of days above 110', 31! It would have been way more but there was a 109' day that ruined the run. Scrap that, I just googled it and I guess '24 was not great either for heat... 70 days above 110' and a record 113 consecutive days above 100'. That's too much heat for me! But that is where having a place up north to retreat to would work well.

Yea I'd like to sell out and move up north too. Snag 5-10 acres north of Flag and build a little cabin on it.
But you can't get insurance anymore.

The closest to perfection weather-wise I've ever lived was in the Bay-Area, but prices are out of sight and the
property crime is just out of control. Lived there the better part of 12 years during the late 80's-90's ... the
49ers ruled... it was a lot of fun for sure. I watched the Internet Boom all up and down the 101. Amazing time.

 

Been seeing all these places for sale that look nice. Good prices but impossible insurance. I suppose going commando might be OK for a small cabin but then you’re screwed if a hunter or other trespasser trips on the grass.
