I'll add that I borrowed a friends Milwaukee inflator the other day airing my miata tires back up after autocross and I was thoroughly impressed. Much smaller tires of course but did 20 to 35 psi in like 15 sec. Beats me using my bike pump at least lol.

I'd be curious how it works on 32-35" tires and battery life.

 

Power Tank. Worth the investment. Eventually the plug in compressors will let you down. If you do go air compressor, then the recommendations mentioned above, ARB ETC.. are solid and connecting to your battery is the way to go.

 

I have a m18 inflator and 32" tires. It has no issues inflating from 20 to 35 psi one tire at a time, takes a bit longer than 15 seconds though. I can do all 4 tires with one 3.0 battery.
It does struggle if you try to do 2 tires at once and I also carry a 6.0 battery (for my chainsaw) with rapid charger.

And if it ever does fail I have my trusty Silca floor pump which I would dread to use on a large vehicle tire.

 

Yeah that's not bad at all, i was thinking it would need the 5 or 6ah. I'm typically in no rush so its nbd. Might be a worthwhile investment since I can use on both truck and miata at the track easily. Floor pump isn't bad for the miata but def gives you a good workout and some time just adding 5 psi or so into the truck tires.

 

Agree to disagree. PT is nice but if I was to go that route, I rather buy a ~20lb tank from a local air supply because with a PT, you have to pay for hydrostatic test every 5 years. If you buy the tank from an air supply business, all you’re responsible for is the gas and the tank is much cheaper.

IMO, if someone is considering a tank, buy a nitrogen tank over CO2. At least the nitro tank has multiple uses, which includes refilling tires, charging air bumps and coilovers etc. Can’t charge accessories with CO2.

 

I owned and used different compressor and tanks throughout the years. Owned 3 different ARB: compact, single high performance and the twin compressor. Don’t both trying to air up with the compact, only use that for lockers engagement. The high performance, imo, doesn’t provide enough cfm to inflate fast and I use it to engage locker with a chuck in case I need to use it. The twin performed better but at $600+, you might want to reconsider. I bought one because I got a sweet deal on it, but I wouldn’t use it to air up 37+ tires.

I still carry a Napa twin pump and find myself using it more than the nitro tank I carry in the bed. Paid under $140 and aired my old 40s and current 42” tire just fine. I switch between the nitro and Napa twin pump depending on the group I offroad with, most don’t have tank. I can charge my 42 with nitro fast but still end up waiting for the others that are using portables to air their 35/37 tires.

I would highly recommend a twin pump such as Napa or another brand (hence the book store). Performed well, owned it for several years with multiple usage each year, still small enough to consider semi-compact, and comes with everything you need in the kit.

 

Valid points Having choices is a nice luxury we all can enjoy. I have no need for nitro, do not own nitro shocks or coil overs, but I know Power Tank offers those options as well. 20lb tanks are just too big for my liking as co2 uses less volume than nitro and I appreciate the consistent pressure up to the last drop. Which ever route someone takes I am sure they will be happy if whatever money they save they use to purchase quality regulators and accessories. The hydro test is a legit point. It is no bother to me, I have been running Power Tank products for over 20 years with zero complaints. The hydro test comes around about the same time I need new tires.
