You are not really comparing apples to apples here......Price out a SR with the XL. STX to the SR5. I always try to look at it like this....what would ford charge me to get a heated steering wheel?

Tacomas have always been at the same price point as a base trim 150/1500 class, with very few year models proving the exception.

Don't look up insurance rates and mileage comparisons unless you really want to prove that you made the wrong choice.

Tacomas are for people who would rather drive a Camry at least when it comes to getting a trim with more creature comforts and that's ok. Saw an older than me woman driving a Sport hybrid on Friday, I'm like hon why didn't you get a Lexus ES? I guess she needs the bed to get things home from the local nursery.

    Edit

I only want an SR or SR5 since that's about the only Xtra cabs available.

Ford was offering O% for 60 months on 2024 Supper Duty, if the dealer would sell at their lowest advertised price which can be 5 -7 grand off a sub $60k unit at that rate that might not be a bad deal.

Toyota has priced me out of buying a new vehicle, that's all I know. I paid $28,5 for my SR5, 5 ft bed, 2WD in 2019 and the prices have inflated way past my income.

    It's crazy.

Stephen A Smith was comparing prices of common things between when the Cowboys last won a Super Bowl and today, he mentioned the avg price of a new vehicle in America is like $44,000. In 1996, it was like $22,000.

The middle class is being crushed by the cost of things and cost of living.

The same truck can be had for mid $30’s. Found a DC SR5 for $34,500, $6,000 more in 6 years isn’t that bad. Whats the price increase from a 2016 3G to a 2023 3G? Probably $6,000 as well.

I still own 2023 SR5. My GF leased 24 TRD OR but she didn't like it much so swapped with Bronco. I drove it few times and while the interior felt refreshing, the truck itself felt like something spoiled kids drive. I just didn't like having buttons to click on tailgate, and overall shiny things, its just too much for me.

Its just I didnt realize how much TRD's cost actually , its crazy. No one needs that much fluff to go off roading

That $22k in 1996 is worth over $45k today, so looks like we’re doing well.
    https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

Inflation sucks. There’s also a lot of extra safety stuff in every vehicle today thanks to government mandates. Most of it good, but it comes at a cost.

Edit - prices go up over time, sometimes faster and sometimes slower. Just kinda how the world works. So when you compare prices today to 30 years ago, guess what you’re gonna see.

I think the median income for 2024 was around $62K if my memory is correct.

    median income data nationally.

    https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/awidevelop.html

    1996 29000
    2023 66000

making vehicles on average more affordable today than 1996 based on vehicle costs cited above. Of course there are regional and job sector differences.

All that does is reconfirm the importance of calculating inflation. Over and over I go to an inflation calculator for perspective. With that I consider how we have richness from choice over time. Now standard trim and entry level vehicles have features that were a luxury car when I was a kid, a standard TV has a remote control. Different sources show a 1975 to now stepping into a grocery store is a 300% to 600% larger range of choice or what is available. If that Slate pickup happens we'll kind of go back to the older minimal choices.

Another good strategy I've stuck with from early 1980s through my now retirement is how it is not so impossible to do alright. When our region became the rust belt I realized to just beat some important means and medians. It seemed so dark or impossible at first but some skills building and willingness to change made all the difference and even late in my working years.

    Good luck!

If your comparing prices between a Toyota and a ford that’s fine but Toyota will always be 10 times the truck ford will ever be

Agreed, I'd rather have a Tundra than a F150 everyday of the week.

At the same time, give Ford credit, the F150 is the #1 selling full size truck still isn't it?

    Lotta suckers out there.

As far as Toyota goes, yeah they can raise the prices, doesn't mean we have to buy.

If you're in a paid off Toyota, and it's running well, why bother buying another new truck right now? Granted everyone's situation is different, I get that.

Are you talking about the 3rd gen Tundra? The seat panel on my Ford does squeak when it's cold out it hasn't broke yet. No running boards and the front is leveled so I put dome stress on that area. My volume has yet to fall of and the engine hasn't been recalled eather, the brake rotors don't squeal, didn't have to have the fuel lines replaced either. Ford might be the recall king but the Tundra has had 10 times the issues since it was released in 2021.

Mark ups and the fact I don't like the look of the Tundra sold me on a 2021 F-150 I did trade that one for a 23 that hasn't had a single recall yet.

I think dodges are even cheaper. With how often people get new vehicles on this site, very few actually need a Toyota.
