Never heard back from @chrslefty but by sheer coincidence he had the set up Id been thinking about so I went ahead and got it.

Sorry ,My bad I don't remember seeing the message or forgot to reply i apologize It's a great setup . I though a extra latex topper on mine . With a heating pad underneath the topper makes it nice to get into a warm bed. I also added some tent rods to hold the flaps open without having to stake them down.

All good man. I think I commented on your build thread. Actually happened across your YouTube video and thought "Wait, I know that username!"

And good to hear. Ill keep that in mind. I was already laying in it and it was super comfy. And it fit back in the bag!

:annoyed: Seems like every project I'm at the hardware store or on McMaster looking for some kind of special fastener.

The security bits I have for my chase lights are a hair too long. I had to order shorter ones.

@shaggy135 's rotopax is lookin bitchin on the roof though!

Anyone tow smaller travel trailers (16-18ft ,long nominal length ~4000lbs loaded long distance (Phoenix to Yellowstone). I am getting a red arc brake controller installed here in the next few days and then a WDH hitch with anti sway. Just wondering how fun this type of drive is. Outside of this specific trip, it will be used primarily to camp around flagstaff, rim lakes and greer area.

I used to tow a 21’ toy hauler with mine. about 4500lbs or so. But mine is a 2nd gen. Depending on tongue weight you’ll want to do something with the rear suspension to help handle weight. Either add a leaf or bags or something.

Supercharged helped with power, it would scream up hills though running 4k RPM and up on hills, but the truck brakes do nothing for a trailer of that weight given the weight of the Tacoma. You’ll need to crank the trailer brakes up and basically use trailer brakes for stopping. Feels like throwing an anchor out the back and the truck squats but it worked and felt pretty safe.

Other than that, expect super shitty mileage. I would average 9-10 when towing but on long climbs it would get like 3-4

Many run in S-mode ... S4 or S5 ... keep the engine revs higher to access the torque. Gear hunting into 6th kills torque because of lower revs.

Ok, yeah I am probably not going to want to stop for gas what seems like every hundred miles. I will probably turn my head to fancier pop ups now.
