Oil pan woes - requesting unbiased opinions!

    One of my mechanic friends (who is unfortunately on the opposite coast from me) recommended a nut! I am liking the Fumoto idea.
    I appreciate the suggestions of where to find a new pan (and am bummed I didn't catch you before you tossed the one you had!!!); I feel like they've got to be out there somewhere!! I love the truck and it's still in great shape, so plan to keep it for awhile yet!

    I always used a shorty socket wrench and NO AIR TOOLS EVER.

    I guarantee if they blast them [drain plugs] off with one, they are slamming it back in with one.

    It's like when I would go out to a damage on our gas piping, they always swore they hand dug, yeah, OK, sure, where is the shovel? All I see is a hydro-hoe and zero actual hand shovel marks.

    Update: I talked with the shop owner today and shared the feedback I got here and he basically said a) he's seen plug threads fail without any human error, so it is a thing that can happen and b) the Fumoto valve is a "half-ass" solution and not anything a "real mechanic" would do (i.e., he wouldn't put it on, even if I asked him to). I replied with: Okay, then what is the not-$600 solution to my issue?
    He's doing some research and will get back to me.

    All that said, what little research I've done makes me think the Fumoto is perfect. The truck is 30years old - it's not a precious gem; it's a functional truck that I need to be able to change the oil on. Not sure why this is such a headache!!! //endrant

    Clock Volt meter/LSPV Delete/Hyundai 16’s/FP gauge/after 9months of wrenching ZERO oil leaks
    just make sure you/mech cleans as best as possible the seeping oil from the empty pan
    the oil on surface of where the RTV will be gooped up on will not hold if oil/pertroleum product on surface

    maybe screw in the Fumoto half way and then brake clean the crap of the surface, quickly apply the RTV and tighten

    Most of us on this forum have been running a Fumoto since the beginning, I had one on my Tacoma, and still have one on the Tundra and it's been the best thing ever. A "real mechanic" would install one and not give it a second thought. The only drawback, if it's even considered as such, is the slightly slower drain time. It's just a few extra minutes, not hours or days..
    Hell, I had a short hose connected to mine on the Tacoma to get the oil down below the skid plate, and when not draining, just tucked the hose up on top of the skid plate.

    That would be great if you could provide that .......since its unobtainable

    Out of curiosity......is this a 5 lug or 6 lug wheel
