Looks like the big property tax bill is in the mail today, oh joy!

 

Same , due 8/31 with a 5% discount, otherwise Oct or Nov.

 

The real kicker is my township gets a lower homestead exemption rates. Go up the road a bit and it's like a $1000 discount where mine is $260

 

I put mine in the mail last week. There was a homesteader discount on my value of about 15% which means I saved about $355. I did appeal when the county reassessed a few years ago but lost. Recently, I got a letter from some law firm to fight this with the line, "if you don't win, you don't pay!" What they don't say is how much they charge if I win. I wonder if it is more than what I'll save, or equal to what I save?

 

Hah, I remember when I bought my house the county looked at the photos online and I got re-assessed by a big margin for having a "finished basement". I really wanted to fight it, but at the time I was converting my carport to a garage and didn't want anyone snooping around

My youngest son bought a house in a neighboring school district, after the sale they immediately took the reassessment to court for full sale price value ! We hired a layer and fought it but probably could of done the same if we represented ourselves. They did use the sales figures but at a certain " common level ratio" percentage, all of Allegheny county is allowed to use this percentage value which is %50.14.

 

Did the same when I moved into mine. But they let me demo the basement before the tax increase to stop it

5%?? Nice! I only get 2% and I'm in the highest millage school district in the county. The district graduates 70 to 80 kids a year and refuses to merge with any other district. 19 separate school districts, 74 individual municipalities and 36 sovereign law enforcement agencies in the county. People rant about high taxes but consider "consolidation" a four-letter word. Some people just can't give up their petty little fiefdoms.

 

My taxes, school, county, boro, are now higher than my mortgage was when we first bought in 92. Inflation SMH. Guess I gotta plan for this in retirement. As far as 5% discount, let me double check, that was from the wife half asleep on the couch lol.

 

Finally pulled the motorcycle out this past Sunday went for a nice morning cruise. I really need to get a new rear stand chain is a bit loose or stretched.
