My brakes get a good little squeak right as I’m coming to a stop. It’s driving me nuts. What can I do to fix it?

Have you done a visual inspection of your brakes yet?

It’s probably the wear indicators if you haven’t replaced them in a while.

    Depends on the cause.

We could list guesses based on various assumptions, but that wouldn't be very helpful for you.

Not sure how many miles since the last brake job. Just bought the truck a couple months ago. No vibrating or anything when braking at high speeds. Just a pretty sharp squeak right as it stops.

I had a OEM braking vibrabration at 40K miles. I have 20K miles on PowerStop and very happy with them.

Try find the cause of the noise first, then you would know what to fix.

Look at the Carfax or Toyota.com and see if you can find the Service records when the brakes were replaced.

I will try to answer this, at my shop the most common cause of a squeak in the BRAKES is from glazed rotors, pads or the teflon pad on the back side of pad has lost its cushion. Pull the wheels and make sure the pads are still in good shape if they are, remove the pads & sand the surface of the pads & rotors with real coarse sand paper to remove the glaze.. Grease the back side of the pads with hi temp grease, [not a ton of grease] reinstall. IF the wear sensors were activated it will squeak most all the time. When you apply the brakes the squeak will stop. good luck !!

Figure out if its coming from the front or rear would be a good start. You've got 2 entirely different routes to go after that.

If you have a jack, pull a front tire and use a flashlight to look down through the top of the brake caliper at the top edges of the brake pads. You should see the backing pad, which is a thinner metal strip, and the brake pad material, which is slightly smaller. There are "wear indicators" that are meant to produce a noise when the brakes are applied, to alert you to the fact your brake pad material is at the end of its life. Its a small strip of sheet metal which from the top view kind of looks like a "7" poking out from the backing plate of the brake pad. If it looks about even with the rotor-side edge of the brake pad, your brake pads need replaced.

There are lots of options for replacement pads. You can go with OEM or oem equivalent, upgrade to the TRD ceramic (which will perform better, but also make some noises when cold), or go aftermarket if you want improved braking performance.
