Frame residue after replacement

I have a question about frame residue - bought a used 2012 Tacoma with little bit of existing rust, which I cleaned up and want to apply converter and surface shield undercoating


1) But before I do is like to check here about this yellow foamy substance - can anyone tell me what it is ?


Frame had a recall under previous owner. My guess was that it's some kind of vibration / sound dampening, there is also existing undercoating - oily substance along both frame rails, but nowhere else - I'll be striping that (at least I think that what it is , otherwise I don't know why it's oily)


My only concern is first picture - foam inside front of the frame on both side of the car


Is this an issue going forward? For trapped moisture and inability to apply SS properly inside, should I install some plug there ?


When I removed a piece off the frame it feels like foam on the outside, but it's soft and wet on inside


2) and on the other note - is the scratch line in the tire of any concern long-term ? It's on several spots around, this one is deepest

Not sure about the white goo on the frame. But the dealer did apply more frame sealant along both sides of my frame members but they used Chalking gun type much neater than what you're showing.

My Tacoma a 2013 didn't need a frame (thanks to Fluid Film)

As far as the scratch on the tire it's not a scratch the tire is speratateing where the belts are in the sidewall.

I had the same thing, plenty of tread left but the tires are letting you know "I'm old and need some attention"

That is Toyota's frame anti corrosion sealant applied along the seams and joints and such.

 

Is it the same thing inside of the frame ? (Hole in the frame showing yellow on the first pic)

 

Hm that's a bummer, forest have like 70% thread, what's does it mean then ? At which point will this becomes an issue for replacement and will the split get visually worse before it's dangerous to drive ?

 

I didn't wait to find out. I treated it was a hazard. And replaced all 4 tires.

The splits were completely around the e tire side wall.

I only found out when .my mechanic deflate the front tires so he could work in the engine compartment

I would bet that was a corrosion spot they treated that was rusted more then rest of the frame.

 

I see, what do you recommend going forward with around this section ?


I will be touching up few surface rust spots this week and also purchased surface shield (FF alternative) to spray

But obviously I won't be able to hit this inside section of the frame effectively so should I just plug it ??? It's only this one drain hole on both sides

Another thing Ian wondering whether FF spray is recommended when I do some offroading regularly - wont it make it worse when I spray Inside cavities and dust gets settled there and then hold water ?
Or does this just require to rinse it out once in a while ?

I live in pnw so lot of rain but I don't have to worry that much about salt - we have only few snow days every winter (Vancouver)

 

Tire was made in 2024 :/ really bad luck I guess, will see if previous owner can warranty them

 

While it stays soft, it's not like it's in liquid form and just rinsing it out works fine. Retreat yearly with FF or LPS 3 [I like that better] and keep mud rinsed off as it holds moisture. ANYTHING that holds moisture against steel is a bad thing.

 

You are probably correct, the frame warranty work I've seen on vehicle history mRNAs that their treated it not replaced it, so this is sealant thei out in here is there to stay I suppose as Ian not sure I would be able to blow it out to apply spray under coating inside.

I can and probably will do that in other inside sections.

However returning to my last question - these 2 drain holes, being that their are full of sealant and at the front of vehicle - would you plug them ? Or at least cover so water is restricted from splashing in but hopefully be able to escape (not sure how much sealant is there and whether it will allow water that enters along the frame at the back to flow
