Remember when

So much for that "country club" your family belonged to....

 

We used to have BAM every year in the Bay. Through Iclub. Last one I went to was at the USS Hornet. Drew about 3-400 cars. Its was fun. I got too old for the scene. I found myself (at 40 years old) standing around with a bunch of 20 something year old kids. It was definitely great fun for my son and I. He's the scrub throwing the peace sign at one of the Hellaflush events on the Penninsula. Spent way too much money. WAY WAY WAY too much money. If my wife knew the numbers involved, I'd be a dead man.

 

Remember when driver's ed class looked like this?

Even with a pellet gun?

 

Never had the simulators, but I do remember Death on the Highway.

I had been driving learner's permit and license for over a year on nothing but manuals. Took the class for the insurance discount. First time I got behind the wheel of the damned automatic Duster for class, my left foot instantly looked for the clutch pedal. Teacher looked at my feet, then looked at me, and said, "Been driving sticks, eh?" I said, "Yep, don't we have any real cars to drive?" He said, "Nope!", and that was the end of that discussion!

 

Funny I didn't learn to drive stick until 2003.....sorta miss it a little bit.

Got to drive some good ones. The 2004 VW R32 is the best stick shift I've ever driven. It practically shifted itself.

 

My two best were:

'75 Porsche 914 1.8 5 speed - A riot to sling around winding roads!

'98 BMW 540i 6 speed - Super comfortable and great looking cruiser that didn't mind sprited driving, at all!

 

Remember when parents would threaten you on roadtrips with "Don't make me come back there!"

Always amusing - like yeah Dad, come get me while you're driving!

 

6 foot fence required in MA regardless of above or in ground. City or town can make the regs moreso.

As a pool owner it's a minor annoyance. I'd feel terrible if something happened, though I also feel that if someone walks into my yard uninvited that's not my fault either. FWIW nobody has an open invite to the pool, family included.

 

If a kid today got chased by or bit by a dog, he may need therapy.

 

Or some meds and a safe space.

I got bit once, by a German Shepard, I opened their screen door, the heavy door was open, it was summer, and tossed the paper in as I tossed it in he grabbed the meat of my thumb/palm and put one incisor or canine into it. Wasn't the end of the world, I didn't sue, the lady bandaged me up and apologized.

 

Remember the phrases and punishments that were handed down by parents in the 80s? Remember when corporal punishment was totally fine?

Some of my favorites:

"You're gonna get a lickin" - my friends mom used to say that.

"I'll give ya somethin to cry about."

"Children are to be seen and not heard."

My dad used to call my friends "Cronies" and said we were up to "Shenanigans."

 

I was that loser that got to hung around the cool people so they had someone to make fun of

Sorry to hear that. My friends could be jerks too. They'd show up sometimes to pick me up on summer nights (BMX bikes) and sometimes they would not. Or I'd have to go out looking for them.
