IMG_8712.jpg IMG_8711.jpg A lot of mixed search results. Particularly that AI generated bullshit.
I need to haul my big block Chevy engine in my truck on about a 75 mile ride. I plan on ratchet strapping the engine dolly in the bed. Motor weighs about 600 pounds.
How strong are these tie downs?
I’m figuring that I may need to add a couple more floor d-rings to spread the load.

Should hold it. Giver a few tugs.

It would be better if the engine wasn’t up on the stand and instead on a pallet or crate.

The engine isn't on a typical engine stand, it is on more of an engine cradle. Its only a couple inches off of the ground.

In all seriousness, I think you will be fine. Strap it down with some appropriate strength straps and don't go wheelin with it back there!

But then again, what the hell do I know?

You will want the engine as far forward in the bed as possible, put a good size piece of wood between it and the box headboard to protect the composite. Use the front loops to keep the engine firmly against the headboard.

The rear loops are pretty strong as they are on the bed bolts and will take the brunt of the force if you need to stop quickly.

I could be wrong but I think you can easily bolt on a couple more floor tiedown points in the front of the bed like the ones already in the back.

yea…. I plan on laying 3/4” thick wood panel on the bed with braces/support pieces that will lock the engine cradle in place so it can’t shift in any direction.

Trip to the engine dyno is 8/20. So I’ve got time to get this right.

Interesting how much harder it is to stop heavy things from moving once they start moving than it is to keep them from moving in the first place.

You're going through a lot of trouble and asking a lot of questions.
Then you use bungee cords ?!
I don't care if there the "strong ones".
    They're still bungees.
Do yourself a favour and get some proper ratcheting tie down straps !

    Canuck guy,
It was clearly a joke. Hence the smiley faces. I mean come on…, the bungee cord was hooked to the water pump belt.
I used ratchet straps. I installed extra d-rings on the floor to the bed bolts.

When you get an engine --

    You get an engine!

That thing looks like serious business just sitting still.
    What is it going in?

Came out of my ‘70 Chevelle. I gave it a complete rebuild. Going on the dyno in about a week. Then back in the car again. 489 cubic inches of fun. :)
Took it around the neighborhood in the back of the truck. Did some partial brake check stops and some sharp steering left and right. Seems tight, it ain’t moving.

Oh, I’m disappointed. I was looking forward to the Tacoma engine swap thread.
