Roto-Rooter just left. Main line is clear, so they say. But the tech didn’t exactly ooze confidence in knowing what he was doing. They tell me the problem is in the septic… The honey pot is coming out to take a look. Emergency service = cha-ching.

Do you use any treatments on your septic, like these?

The house is rarely used. It’s a summer home on the Cape. So not much goes into the tank on a yearly basis but the tank was pretty much filled. There’s supposedly a filter somewhere in the system, either in the tank or in a separate box before the tank. They suspect that needs to be serviced.

They say if you use an enzyme treatment regularly you shouldn't ever need to empty your septic tank. Unfortunately most cleaners tend to kill off the good enzymes in your septic. I think replenishing them on a regular basis is a good idea. Particularly with how expensive septic repairs can be...:spending:

I'd increase the frequency to every month when it's in use and a double dose when you close it up in the fall. Maybe even a double dose to kick start the season when you open things up again in the spring. I reckon the freeze up there might go deep enough to stop the enzymes from working through the winter. After all regular maintenance is generally cheap compared to repairs on most things.

I have another 6 years until I can retire from the federal government with full benefits. I really thought hard when the early retirement offer was made a few months ago.

It may be as simple as having the tank pumped out, the tile field is a different program. If the tile field is not doing its job then you got a problem.

Well, we have a working waste system. Turned out tree roots took to the pipe at the inlet to the tank. The pump out guy cut the roots and Niagara Falls occurred. Why Roto-Rooter couldn’t figure it out beats me. I guess R-R didn’t want to be bothered to find the front access hole for the tank.

Sounds like something to note in a review. Maybe the boss doesn't know his 'rooter' guy isn't interested in rooting.

I sent a polite but descriptive text to the Field Supervisor that stopped by to upsell me on having them clean and disinfect the downstairs bath and basement.

So you have a septic tank? If so it’s usually at the baffle where the inlet dumps in 99% of the time I clear them with a board and pump if necessary. If it’s a 1000 gallon tank I’m curious what a pump out cost up there I have a guy that has done ours for years and he treats me well. But we are repeat customers I have a few tanks.

Yeast packets will do just as well as the expensive treatment.

Yes septic tank. I don’t know the cost yet. I have to call in tomorrow as it was after hours when he finished and couldn’t process the CC. But the emergency appointment fee is 350.00. Had to do it as I need a working bath.
