Gonna play Devil's Advocate here. Keep in mind I have only sat on one at a local dealer, toes barely touching the ground.
Lot's of video's are starting to pop up saying the T7 ain't all that and a bag of chips. Yes it's very capable off road. Not so friendly on the street. Very top heavy, and that's a problem when it falls over. I keep looking into one myself, but then I realize the bike I have is basically a 300cc T3 that I can actually pick up. When they come out with the T5, I'll take another look. :D

Fuel economy is not great on them either from what the peeps say. Combined with a smallish tank, that's no bueno for an ADV bike.
Some guys are selling theirs because they just don't ride it as much as they thought, but used to ride a lot before they bought one. If the bike isn't calling you to ride it, it may not be the bike you need.
You might be a more advanced rider, but they all have the same theme that the bike does a lot of cool things off road but the riders aren't necessarily interested in doing those things.

Now that I have the 300 the t7 is needed to complete my collection for the time being. Also been eyeing up ebox’s for neighborhood fuckery.

just a couple of things tbh
my buddy has an older t7 and ive ridden it and its a lot of fun! now it was only a short ride and he told me next time we meet up i can ride it around longer and get a feel for it. i know the t7 isnt the best thing out there its more like a tacoma tbh lol, it does a lot of things good but nothing amazing. so as long as you know that then you are good to go. the ktm 790 and 890 would be cool but those bikes have a lot of issues and id rather not deal with that plus with ktm being iffy? i dont think id buy one.

ya the fuel economy isnt great but doing some small hops around here and taking it to places and then ridding around i think is where it shines. i personally dont think its a long distance bike thou. its just a bigger dirtbike thats heavy.
im an average rider tbh i dont see my self as anything special. id like an at but they hold a premium. still a very nice bike thou! and id love to check one out also! i have one buddy with one but minus me owning two Kawasaki's (minus my old klx being a suzuki that was green lol) ive always been a yamaha person. so even thou honda is an amazing brand! i just always go back to team blue lol.

Let me tell you, in a week will be my 1 year anniversary with my T7 and it is the best decision I've ever made. I came from a KLR so massive upgrades in every direction. On the height topic, I'm 6'6" and have the rally seat and it fits me perfectly. My friend is 5'10" and just got a T7 with the stock seat and he says he has no problems, he was going to throw some lowering links on but decided not to. If you ever get buyer's remorse, just go out, crack the throttle and you'll forget all about any regrets, trust me I know haha.

It's an interesting experience so far. The bike weighs like 460 pounds with a full tank of gas and is fairly top heavy. The tank holds 6.1 gallons though and I think my fuel economy is around 50-55 mpg so far. The low end torque feels pretty strong with the one big cylinder. Definitely not a high revving engine but it does okay on the highway up to about 70-75.

I'm thinking of a T7 or Transalp if I want to upgrade but stay with the adventure type bikes.

I think those are two extremely different bikes. I've actually heard the CB500X can be a better offroad adventure bike than the Transalp. The T7 though, definitely great offroad in comparison. I think the Transalp would be better on the road only. And honestly, everything I read on the transalp makes me think it isn't worth the money period. Be better off getting an Africa twin, or like you said, the T7.

I just wanted to get back into riding and didn't want to commit to a bigger or more expensive bike for now. I was able to get it for 6500 OTD and you're talking more like 10 grand for a T7. I haven't really been off road with the KLR yet but it's supposed to be pretty capable. I think the KLR makes a compelling proposition for the price. It does have its problems and limitations like any other bike though.

nah thats fair man. just to get back into riding i dont think thats a bad choice for the price! at the end of the day if it runs and its fun and not nickel and diming you to death and lets you ride thats all that matters!

ya the t7 is pricey new! they have some good deals atm it seems to buy a new one. but ill go the used route to save a few grand.

So far I've changed the oil once, cleaned/lubed the chain a few times, and installed the "thermo bob" which is a cooling system upgrade. Thinking of adding some extra lighting next to be seen more easily and light up the road better at night.

Absolutely nothing wrong with getting a KLR. I was looking at the S version for a bit. But I knew I wouldn't need it's off road ability, and kinda heavy for my first bike. They're a tank though. There's a reason they've sold forever and so many still out there. They may have some issues, but are at least easier to work on then some bikes.
