At the ripe old age of 5?—this is actually my first time owning a turbocharged vehicle. My wife drives an X2 with a 4-cylinder turbo, and while I’ve driven it occasionally, I never really paid much attention to how it performed.

My Tacoma is my daily driver, and I’ve started noticing the differences in how it behaves under normal conditions versus when towing. I’ve learned a lot from the feedback in this thread, and I really appreciate the insights and advice. It’s reassuring to know that what I’m experiencing is normal, and I’ve got a better idea of what to watch for moving forward.

It would make more sense to get a Tundra, if the Tundra is too get a 2.7 tt V6 Ranger instead of using an aftermarket valve on a 4cy turbo Tacoma to aid when towing.

I was going to say something extremely similar to this.

    Now I don’t have to.

If you're only worried about it when towing a Trans cooler would be a better choice, mine cools the Trans great which helps with engine temps too.

@BuscoT just install the SXTH Element intake. You will be able to hear the turbo a lot more and you get bov type sounds when boosting and letting off the throttle.

Hmmm, I wished I would have done this sooner. I did put on a Stillen Air Intake. However I will take a look into that.

lol this reminds me of my younger days when we were fitting hondas with dryer exhaust vent tubes at the intake manifold and hose clamping on a generic cone filter for a homemade cold air intake. later people would make some cheap crush bent aluminum tubes for it...long before AEM, K&N, etc came into the aftermarket scene.

replacing it with any cone filter would make the air intake volume louder compared to the OEM airbox filter/assembly. brand really wouldnt matter. tubing and filter housing isnt as big and heavy like the oem assemblies.

the flutter or the "stutututu" sound which is the valve bleeding off excess pressure would stay the same, unless you go with an atmospheric dump valve via aftermarket (HKS, greddy, turboXS, etcetc), which is a completely different application and as mentioned, not good for the engine.
