For the last 30 years I've had a bed rack on my Rangers--white oak & aluminum bracing, set into the bed sockets that were traditional on pickups. Now I have a brand-new Tacoma and no sockets. Looks like it will be a commercial bed rack this time for carrying various boats and other long things.

Is there a superior brand that is strong and durable?

I've got the Elevate rack and have been very happy with it so far. If you'd have any interest in the write-up I posted, here it is: finally-pulled-the-trigger-on-bed-cover-rack-combo.859907 (if you're not planning to get a cover, you'll have far more choices).

For boats I much prefer over cab with crossbars and there's a thread here on what some have done including my update that Yakima is finally at making "Landing Pad" solution for the built into cab mount points. If Yakima doesn't have the Landing Pads for 4th gen released soon I'll go forward with new bars and clip type towers if only to have the boat and ladder carry for the fall months.

My bed rack choice would be Fas-Top because I'm so pleased with their all in one tonneau/topper but it looks to be good even if you don't have the latter. It's AL, and adjustable for height. I'm aware other bed rack and soft or hard topper combos exist but now a year+ with the Fas-Top I can't imagine spending money or time with something else. I've been 200 to 1500 miles from home and all of a sudden have going from tonneau to topper save the day. Also have been traveling and in an urban scenario the pickup just looks plain with a simple tonneau.
