So i've had the original Droid since it came out. Its been getting slower and slower and today the bluetooth wouldn't work. so I tried to teach it a lesson. As a reslut, i no longer have a phone. So i need to try to get out sometime this week and get a new one. problem is, i dont want any of them. The thunderbolt is cool, but from what i can tell it ONLY works on 4g and has no 3g capabilities. obviously, that is not gonna work in an area where we dont really have 4g yet. i dont like the droid 2 because i dont want teh slide out keyboard. Droid X is ok, but the screen is too big. that means it takes up too much room in my pocket, and the battery wont stay charged. so that leaves the new iphone. i have a macbook, but i hate supporting apple because i consider them evil. too much proprietary shit and i hate being nickel and dimed like they like to do. plus, i just started reading all about how they are keeping detailed location info on the device. i know its not likely that that will ever bite me in the ass, but i wont support a company that is being shady about tracking personal info. so..... what the fuck do i do? i know there are lower end android phones, but i hate stuff that lags, so i'm looking for something pretty powerful. anyone know if apple is planning on doing away with there shady tracking shit?

it is not true that the thunderbolt only works on 4G. it is 3G/4G capable.

i've had it for three weeks. in my opinion, it's the best phone i've owned...which is a lot. 4G may not be in your area yet, but it will be.

My Droid X can go for over two days on a full charge. This is the second one though, first one wouldn't stay charged for longer than a couple hours and got so hot it would power cycle. Verizon replaced it no questions asked. This one has been great.

yeah, to be honest, i'm not really minding the fact that i dont have a phone at the moment. i keeps vibrating to tell me people are texting me but its kinda nice not having to give a shit. of course my mom may think i'm dead...... hmmm... i wish i could remember her cell phone number. thats actually the biggest pain is that i cant get any of my info from it. i may need to look into the casio.

btw, i looked at teh thunderbolt. the isssue was not that it is only 4g, its taht you cant turn teh 4g off, and if you dont live in a 4g area, the battery drains in around 5 hours from searching. does anyone know if they have fixed that?

also, im considering the iphone, but heres my problem. with my droid, i downloaded PDAnet, so i can tether without having to pay Verizon. Android is awesome about stuff like that. With apple, its harder to circumvent teh limitations that the cell companies put on the phone. does anyone know if you can tether or use ah iphone as a wifi hotspot without having to pay the monthly fee? does it have a good turn by turn gps system like android? eht idea of giving steve fucking jobs any more of my money makes me cringe

i just cant believe that. my old blackberry could go 48 hours without a charge, but my droid needs to charge every night. i dont believe anyone who has a large touch screen and claims to get more than 12-16 hours with moderate use. maybe 48 hours on standby but not while in use

I have the original droid as well and it was getting slower than shit. I took it in and luckily it was a couple days before the year warranty was up so they replaced it. The one they sent me is still pretty slow, but its a little better than the last one. I dont like the fact they got away with the upgrade after a year plan. They admit the phones are made to last 8-10 months and now they make you wait like 18 months to get a new one. I dont have any info on the phones in question, but just my little input haha

eh, i looked it up and the mil spec thing is cool but its pretty underpowered. its got a slow processor. being ridiculously slow is actually one of the things that caused my other phone to "stop working". when i am not sure if the phone is frozen, thinking, or didn't notice i touched it, i tend to throw it. one thing i forgot to mention is that in addition to having to replace my phone, i have to patch a small spot on my wall..... so i dont see myself getting a phone thats less than lighting fast

thats a long time to wait. plus, i still hate the idea of supporting apple. i like to support companies that make a quality product (which apple does) but they are also retarded about security and proprietary shit. i like the fact that android is open

nope, but i'll definitely look it up. thanks for the suggestion

mine was getting super super slow, and half the time would force close. thats the one reason i'm considering the iphone. apple seems to be better than other companies about not getting bogged down over time. my macbook is fucking badass and i've never once had to "clean" it or run anything to keep it fast. but i do agree with you. as expensive as these things are and as fast as the technology changes, 2 years is kinda stupid.

Ok, maybe two days is an exaggeration, but currently it still has 40% after almost 23 hours:

youre not gonna be happy with the thunderbolt, battery SUCKS! i had it for about 3 days and traded it in for the iphone, they are not tracking your shit, thats all a bunch of crap. and yea they are proprietary, but they make a quality product, it doest force close, it doesnt freeze, doesnt even so much as glitch when you swith between screens with 15 apps running in the background and 100 apps installed on the phone. you never have to reboot it, the apps from the app store are much higher quality than that of androids, bc ppl in the apple app store are not just joe shmo sitting behind the computer at midnight putting apps in the market that suck, they actually have a process to go through before they are published. like i said, i had a droid incredible and i had it rooted/overclocked doing all it could and it just couldnt compare to how the iphone runs, everything just works better with the iphone. plus if you jailbreak it (which you can do with the click of a button) you can facetime over 3g, get all apps for free, change transition animations, yada yada. best part is the battery lasts 2 days under hard use, and you have itunes right on your phone.

HTC Incredible 2. Same specs as the TB, only with 3G and a 4" screen instead of 4.3". Plus Inc's battery's usally last a while. Not too mention that open developers love HTC phones. I am in the market for a phone as well. TB is cool, but a bit too big for my tastes as I keep my phone in my pocket. I think the ETA for the Inc2 is 4/28. Could be wrong on that though. When it hits, I will compare the TB to the Inc2 and see what's up. dual core phones sound cool, but I think the makers of the phones needs to solve the battery issue and come up with a high cap battery in a smaller size. Not too mention that there will not be a lot of apps that will use the dual core. Plus as a 1G electronic device there should be some quirks.

BTW, where you been ND? Haven't seen you around. Trust all is well.
