Suggest a secure license frame screw please.

I'm getting a chrome license plate frame that I don't want easily stolen.

Can you suggest a plate and frame screw that is difficult to tamper with?

 

Use a normal screw, then just use a screw bit on a drill loosely to fubar the head... Won't stop 'em but it'll slow 'em down.

 

Yes I can, but to late to post pic's it is bullet shape but need a special wrench to take off, has 4 gaps in the screw head, and the wrench will go in the gaps to install and remove.
Found at Target and Auto Zone, if interested will post pics later in the day, hitting the hay now.

 

Also, you can look at car parts stores in the license plate frame section there are sometimes allen head with a pin in it with a special allen wrench with a hole in it. They should be easy to find. Good luck and Happy New Year!

These are called "anti-tamper" fasteners.
A full-service hardware store might have them, or better yet a commercial hardware supplier would definitely have them.

ream out the plastic where the bolts screw in, get longer bolts and loctite them through the other side of the bumper. thats what I did with my back up camera. Take an hour to get them off without a heat gun.

 

People steal license plate frames? Lame. People steal anything these days...

 

A 1/2" to 3/4" long - 3/8" diameter panhead nut (no slot) with bolt on back .... got to lay on your back but it has always been my solution.

 

I was always more worried about people stealing the actual license plate, I don't worry so much about my tailgate and backup camera, I figure that's why my State Farm agent gets rich every 6 months...

I used those "anti-tamper" fasteners. I picked them up at Kragen for $3.99 a pair. I added 2 at the bottom for extra security and coolness factor.

 

lol as my boss always says, its like a locked door, its only going to stop an honest theft, if they really want it, they will take it (we had all our tools stolen this summer)

 

I've had the rear plate stolen off my car twice. Cop told me they put them on stolen vehicles or get-away cars so if someone writes down the plate number, it's to the wrong address.

I now use the allen head screws with the pin in the middle. It's not exactly theft-proof but they'll usually select an easier target. I picked them up at Pep Boys by the license plate frames.

 

Oh really? Damn I might be investing in some of these screws you guys are mentioning.

Yeah slow 'em down. The average buttnugget that wants you current reg sticker probably has a leatherman at best... unless he just stole your neighbors tools too. If they really want it they'll get it.

My buddy had a sweet 79 Blazer, battery died in the middle of nowhere in the desert, when he returned 2 hrs later in another vehicle his blazer was short 1 350 engine and 4 wheels. He saw nobody there all day.

 

How did you get the bottom screw. I have a 2009 taco and there are no holes for the screw on the bottom.

 

are you seriously concerned with getting a chrome license plate holder stolen.....in my book that would be a good thing
