Well fellers, I'm knackered, got home at 9:30.

Started with this. There is a bush under there - covered with grape and some flimsy weedy things all around the perimeter, they pull out of the ground easy.

    20250807_165929.jpg

    ...several hours later...
You can see the bush on the bottom, still lots of grape on the top.
On the left you can see the brush pile that was buried in there, about 1/4 of what I started with. Behind the pile is another butt ton of the weedy things.

The new 6.5hp engine is very smooth and powerful compared to the old 5hp, quieter too. So powerful in fact that if something jams the shredder it will smoke the belt rather than stalling.

It is also now sadistically good on gas -- "I'll just keep working until it runs out..."
    :ballchain:
    "Please run out..."

The machine beats you up, larger pieces have to be fed at a controlled rate, the vibrations are tough on the ol' arthritis.

It also randomly throws things at you as well.
These are the green weedy things I pulled, hundreds of them.

    20250807_185114.jpg

I'll have to bring the chipper down here for larger stuff, there is much more to do, probably another nine hours or so more and it will be cleaned up. :annoyed:

I don't think it will be tomorrow, I'll be hurting. :turtleride:

The shredder was finished last week - there was no way I was going to try to do this on 90+ degree days.
I went through a half gallon of water in 3 hours.

Just finished putting the rails up. This weekend I will cut and route the top rails and install the solar LED strip lights under the rail.IMG_4376.jpg

An elderly couple at church ask me to build a handicap ramp at their house. I went by and looked at it the other day and it's under their carport and will be on the concrete so I'll be drilling around a dozen 3/8" holes for mounting brackets.

since it's not something i use a ton, i got a ryobi roto hammer. compared to my hammer drills, this thing is a total beast and made me realize how crappy any other concrete drilling i've done was.

    Looks amazing!

What did you stain the deck boards with? I've got to do ours, been a little over a year since install and they are looking bad.

I chose a product called Sun Frog and I went with the mahogany tint. It worked nicely with the yellow cedar. It’s an easy application. Used a 6 inch foam applicator to apply a light coat. Let it sit for an hour or two and then wipe off what didn’t absorb into the wood. It was cured in 48 hours.
