I was driving yesterday and adjusted the ac temp and turned off recirculation. Somehow I now have warm air blowing from the passenger side and cold air from the driver side. Is there a procedure to reset the blend doors. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I don't think it is because it was working fine and when I made the adjustments is when it started happening. Driver side ice cold.

I'm gonna have to go with Chew on this one. Cold on driver's side and getting progressively warmer to the passenger side is the classic sign of low refrigerant.

Yep. There is no 'reset' procedure other than putting it back like it was setting before.

Recirc is always better if you really need AC. Much more efficient.

However, your specific symptom says low refrigerant.

Your best bet is to take your truck to a reputable mechanic shop that knows AC and has the manifold gauges. Avoid the shops that specialize in auto AC systems-most are complete ripoffs.

I used to own a truck that AC slowly went from ice cold to warm then hot air in Texas summer heat. I took it to a handful of auto AC shops and they all determined that I needed an entire new system costing $1,800-$2,500.

I finally found a reputable auto mechanic near where I live and just told them to diagnose the problem (without informing him what the other AC shops had told me). He put a vacuum on the system with the manifold gauges and checked to aee if pressure was dropping after 30 mins or so. All good he said!

Turns out, my truck just needed a refrigerant charge or recharge. Total cost $90.

Better to get it diagnosed correctly from the start rather than guessing and wasting time and money.

I am going to take it in. The reason I didn't think it was Freon was because when it first happened it was blowing Hot air on passenger side and ice cold driver. I kept messing with the passenger side temp I could finally get it to come down. That's why I was thinking the blend doors weren't right.

You were all right. I must have a leak. What I thought was wrong. It was not the blend door. The Freon is low and now I have to deal with an expensive repair. I appreciate all the input and I was in denial. I have owned many Toyota vehicles and never put an ounce of Freon in them. I guess it is my turn to pay the piper. Thank you all for the advice. I will let you know what the issue is when it gets fixed. My thinking is the Evap coil has a leak. 36K on the Odometer. Cmon Toyota we pay more for reliability where is the quality control??? Will keep you posted.

:fingerscrossed: It’s something simple but seems like a lot of Evaporator Coils are failing. If it’s the Evaporator the dash has to come out.

There's actually TSB's that address this...

It's a low charge. Passenger side is hot, drivers cold.

Needs to be inspected for leaks and recharged.
