Putting the 2” Rough Country Leveling Kit on my 2022 Tacoma here soon, wanting to know what’s the biggest size tires I could run with stock rims? Currently have 265/70R16 on it wanting to see about getting 285/75R16. Anybody else done similar or have better recommendations to achieve a bigger size?

I am concerned you haven’t done your due diligence with respect to planning ahead.

General consensus around here is the RC two inch leveling kits are junk.

I would recommend you send those RC spacers back to where ever you ordered them from.

    Ask for a store credit.

And come up with a more better plan.

    My two cents

Put some skinnies on it - 255/85/16

285s would probably rub the upper control arms

I have done my research, the spacers are just fine for daily drive with no off roading. Would the bilstein 5100 or even the ready lift be a better option yes I don’t disagree with that. Have seen just as many people say they’re fine and have no issues as people saying the same thing you said. But thanks for your two cents buddy

skinnies are no fun, I want to go as wide and tall as possible without adding spacers or any more than just the spacer leveling kit

What else is new haha. Your question has been asked a million times on this forum

It's not that simple. You need to read and research more if you want any kind of ride quality. Those spacers really are going to ride like ass. Stock wheels won't have enough offset to get the wider tires away from the UCA.

I suggested skinnies because theyll have the best chance of fitting without cutting or too much rubbing

You're in the right section.. read more of the threads on this topic.

Everybody new says the same thing as you.. "I've done a bunch of research already" .. but then they're still in here asking the same old question.. "what's the biggest tire I can fit with this or that lift?"

All these trucks are different. Some people rub with 285s, some people don't. Some people wheel and need suspension travel and clearance.. some people don't.

Just curious have you ever had the rough country spacer kit on your truck?

    I'll say this:
    2" lift is 2" lift.
As far as tire fitment goes, it does not matter whether it comes from cheap spacer lift pucks, or high-end Fox or King 2.5 race shocks. The tire will still fit (rub) the same (so don't be thinking they will fit any differently than they would on anyone else's 2"-lifted truck).

285s on stock wheels will rub the UCA. If you want to your keep stock wheels and run 285s, then you'll need ¾ inch or 1 inch wheel spacers.
You may also need to max out your caster angle to get the tire away from rubbing the back of the fenders.

Lots of info on this subject... Hopefully that gives you something more to go on.

    So would a 265/75R16 fit?

A spacer lift is fine for a truck that never leaves the pavement, but if you have a lot of miles then just go with 5100's instead. Why put the labor into something that should be replaced anyway.

All the front spacer lifts are the same, its a 1" chunk of metal to get the 2" of lift. Doesn't matter if its RC or some off brand from Amazon, all the same, prob all made at the same factory in china.

Just keep in mind that it will ride more rough and puts more wear and tear on other items. I wouldn't go above 2" either or you will run into more issues with it like UCA and coil contact at full droop and the shock bottoming out before the bump stop engages.

Always take into account that a lift doesn't equal tire clearance there are other factors in play. The wheel still has to go up and down in the wheel well.

If stock rims then you likely need wheel spacers (If you keep the total offset around 0 then its the best for clearing) for 285/70/17, and this size might need a little bit of trimming, and a body mount chop in some cases. But this is all doable with the right work and parts.

275/70/17 will likely be easier to fit with a little less work.

I was never a fan of my old skinny 33"s bc they were E load tires and it road rough from them.

BTW a 2" front lift is not going to level it out, it will give a bro lean.

Edit - 285/75/16 and 275/75/16 is the same as above.

Yes 265/75/16 would fit without rubbing.

    Happy Friday!

Wheel specs matter as much, maybe more, than lift for tire clearance.

33's can be run with no lift at all on OE wheels, getting there with a 255 as suggested. Fills out wheel wells nicely, no secondary suspension costs or issues created.

Days of reading around here on the topic.

I wanted to try and go with 285/75R16 which I’ve done some talking around and some people it rubs and some people it doesn’t. I’d be more worried about it rubbing against upper control arm then it rubbing against bumper or fender. Was wanting to go with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Do you think I’ll be ok? If not I’m gonna have to go with 265/75R16 due to the sizes in between not having many selections of tires

It depends on wheel specs like others have said but it will definitely rub at least a little on the fenders.

Bora makes a 3/4" and a 1" wheel spacer that would be needed for a stock rim and the 285 width tires. Look up your model's offset for the stock rims, its in MM, and then convert the 3/4" and the 1" to mm and minus it from your wheel's offset. Anything that is +4 to 0 will clear better with 285, and -10 to -12 will look better but will be more likely to rub.

Bora and Spidertrax (1.25" Spacers) is the only two brands that I would use. I have installed, used and many customers with them.

Front Bumper can be handled with either an inner fender mod and maybe a little trimming.

Rear can be handled with removing the mudflaps, and maybe a little trimming, and then if needed, a body mount chop and weld.

You can clear tires better by leaving the upper control arm stock, and getting as much caster as possible from the lower arm, but you will get a little wandering with lower caster numbers from a lift.

If you do rub, its going to be under hard hits with the wheels turned, or backing up at full lock. (Very min. usually). Much more noticeable while offroading, not so much on the street only.

When you install a 1" spacer in the front, you will have to trim the tops of the 3 bolts that are on the tophats. Just hit it with a grinder to make them flush with the spacer.
