Visiting my daughter and doing some work on her vehicle. She was told by a mechanic because she should have the passenger side front suspension stuff tightened up...

Any ideas what he was referring to

Lemme guess, jiffy lube? SOME shady mechanics see $ when it’s a female, or young person, combined they see $$.

Still, since it’s a loved one I would look. Test drive listening for noises. Get it up on jack stands. Grab the tire at 12&6 o’clock, push and pull. Do the same at 3&9 o’clock. Crawl under and look for loose fasteners. Sway bar bushings and end links were worn on mine. Look for any sabotage Mr shady might have done to cause a failure.

Not all techs are shady. I take pride in being honest with customers.

Agreed, a mechanic simply saying things “need to be tightened up” is so broad and vague it’s almost comical. As @Waasheem mentioned, jack the truck up and start checking things yourself: pull and push on the tires at different positions, use a long pry bar to check control arms and ball joints, etc. There are dozens of Tacoma specific videos on YouTube showing exactly how to do this. If you’re not comfortable tackling it yourself, hop on Google and find a solid local mechanic who can do a thorough inspection and tell you exactly what needs replacing, as well as what’s worn and could cause problems in the next few thousand miles. The good ones are still out there!

You should take it to a mechanic. You will probably not be given the same advice. Ask for an estimate and what is needed.
Get a few estimates and compare if it’s not a mechanic you trust.
