It's more so a manner of if they want an excuse they have it to lean on. Doesn't mean they will but they could.

And they will. Seen many people on TW over the years posting about being denied warranty work because they had a lift in their truck or some other crap.

If you've got a lift and are complaining about driveline vibrations, suspension problems, or something along those lines, then sure they have a reasonable reason to reject your claim. If you have a burned valve and a lift, no dealer is going to blame one on another.

In my experience even dealerships are reasonable about those things.

That’s actually illegal in many if not most states, if the modification isn’t directly causing the need for repair.

So your trans let's go after running 35's they are not going to lean on it as a contributing factor while your trying to make a warranty claim?

You'll not win a lift oversize/heavy tire warranty claim involving a transmission if the manufacturer wants to fight as the mod directly affects the failed part/s. Same for the rest of the drive train. Now a failed radiator, or starter or radio, sure, claim away.

really it comes down to your dealer. they dont actually have to report to toyota that they suspect cause of failure is due to your modifications. many dealers actually sell brand new trucks already lifted on 33s. hell ive seen dealers down south sell them with 6" kits and 35s with full warranty.

Generally the argument on that front is we did the labour so we will warranty it as opposed to a DIY guy or a shifty shop doing it. But who knows it's all a case by case basis and every dealer will have a differing opinion.

What can suck is if you have bigger tires, but also regeared the axles to compensate for the tires, you still could get denied warranty on the transmission even though technically the tires in this case didn't actually put extra strain on the trans (a service tech not understanding how axle regearing works... Obviously any warranty on the axle itself would be void). It's a crap shoot for sure.
This probably makes it a wise idea to wait until the warranty is past before you really start ripping into your truck (that said, I tore into mine at around the 3½-year mark... Couldn't wait until all the way to the very end lol). Fortunately nothing came up in that last bit of time.

Problem for me is I tore into mine at around the 3 and 1/2 month mark. But why would the dealer care - doesn't the dealer get reimbursed by Toyota for warranty work? Anyway I don't know about Toyota but Subaru did the lift tires/wheels on my wife's Subaru about six months after we bought it - it doesn't go off road except for the beach. Service Manager told us that it had no impact on the warranty - maybe he was lieing or maybe because his shop did the work he had no problems with it. This was in 2018 about two years later the same dealer was advertising to do LP Adventure lifts.
