Does anyone else's radio just not play any audio at all sometimes? I don't know if it's just coincidence, but I seem to only have this issue if it's overcast and/or raining...
but I've never had an issue playing radio stations (with towers in the same city I'm driving in) during rainstorms in any other vehicles, so I can't fathom cloudiness actually being the cause.

I'm able to switch to Apple CarPlay to play Spotify audio just fine when this happens, but changing Source to CarPlay then back to Radio does not resolve the issue. I have to completely turn the truck off then start it back up to fix.

I thought it might have something to do with the system defaulting to "HD Radio" signal, so I turned that option off a few weeks ago and had not encountered the issue again, until this morning -- which was overcast. I really don't know if either weather or HD Radio have anything to do with it though; I'm not a soundwave scientist. I just want to listen to the radio.

Checking to see if anyone else has had this problem, or if anyone knows where I should check for loose wiring connections?

I have noticed that there is sometimes quite a delay in the radio playing when starting the truck. like at least 2-5 mins once i notice. Very random and rare though. at times my radio is constantly switching between std and hd radio, like evey couple of mins. again no ryme or reason to it. gonna try turning hd radio off next time i notice it now that i know about the setting.

i had a problem 3 times where xm audio played but am/fm no audio would come out.
radio would tune and volume control would inc/dec but no audio.
I took it to dealer, but is was not reproducible for tech to troubleshoot.
I was starting to assume operator error.

Yeah, I experienced this in rainy weather the day I bought my truck, and found it described on p165 of the Multimedia Owner's Manual:
    OM04035U.pdf

Now that I read this again, I'm wondering if it has something to do with me trying to play preset stations. When I set them as favorites previously, I still had HD Radio enabled. So maybe it's still trying to play HD versions of those stations... I'll try forgetting them, making sure I still have HD Radio disabled, then setting them as favorites again.

Operator error is still at the top of my list for possible causes... but worth a shot to ask the experts of TW

Adding station presets helped me. With known presets I don't have any problems... with the preset stations.

I have same issue with my stock radio. 2025 Tacoma. Has happened about 5 times now. Am/FM have no audio but satellite works perfect. very intermittent. I have not waited 2-5 minutes to see if it starts working. I just listen to satellite. I normally notice it when I first start the truck, but once I turned off radio to speak to a person at the window. When I turned radio back on, no sound. Dealer says they have not heard of it.

Did you do anything other than pushing the volume knob to turn it off? Because yeah I've tried just pushing the knob off and on to no avail. I don't drive it a ton, only 400 miles on the odometer since I bought it last month including a weekend trip out of town, but it's happened at least 4-5 times for me too.

fyi toyota tech told me pushing the knob does not turn it off. Its more of a sleep mode.
Always on if truck is on.

Ok yeah that was the impression I had as well after trying it.

I'm no historian but it seems like AM/FM radio has been around for a while, so it's frustrating that it seems to be affected by tech issues

some Land Cruiser folks seem to have had the issue as well (I think the multimedia system is the same for both vehicles)
Radio No Sound | Land Cruiser Forum

I'll mention this is on the 8-inch screen. Have others had this issue exclusively on the 8-inch screen, or does anyone have the 14-inch version? I don't know whether that would make a difference.

I had a 2025 with the 14-inch version for a couple of months before another driver ran a red light and hit me/totaled it, and I never experienced this issue in that truck.

Mine is the 8" screen. I have not had it stop playing while listening to the radio. It just wont work after starting truck or switching from SiriusXM. It only starts working again after turning off truck for a while. I tried every combination of button presses, turned off radio, turned off truck, and nothing resolves it. I have not figured out the perfect combination of steps yet. I just listen to satellite and then later AM/FM will be working again.

I'm going to try pushing and holding the volume knob until the unit resets next time this happens. I never listen to SiriusXM, and my free trial for it expired the day before this post. Not sure if that might be related...

I just had it happen again. I started the truck and it started playing streaming
that i was listening to when I turned truck off.
When I went to play a fm station no audio would come out, but xm audio came out
I looked at the audio source and bluetooth settings, but all looked ok.
I am getting certain its a system or software intermittant bug.

Bummer. I still haven't had it happen again yet, but just a matter of time.

Out of curiosity, what was the weather like when it happened? I'm sure it's probably just coincidence, but I've only ever experienced the problem when it was cloudy or raining.

Weird. Yeah same here with me when it does happen: only AM/FM doesn't work. I don't have SiriusXM anymore, but I think I remember it worked fine the last time this happened when I was still in the trial period

same experience, def no operator error. AM/FM won't play and vehicle has to be restarted to make it work. 8" screen
