That's a long haul...easier in our youth though and I bet it was even better with less traffic.

I fondly recall the roller coaster like rolling of the road. Ford Pinto.

    Seriously
It had these seemingly miles of rolling dips. This would have been summer 1972, I was in Navy "A" school in San Diego. I am sure the road has been improved since. Divided highway then?

Rolling dips on 395? I’ve been driving it since 1977 or so but don’t recall anything dramatic. Not like the stretch of 120 east of 395, as you approach Benton. Those whoops are a thrill at 100+ on a motorcycle.

They're a thrill in a Tacoma at 100 MPH as well. I've definitely caught air on the second to last dip. lol

There's a bunch of hams up here, I have officially activated my first peak with their help. Normally I give contacts while speeding on the 395, now I'm getting them.

They’re definitely something, though I’m not sure I’d call it a thrill, in our 8500 lb Transit van at 65.

I had been up in Tahoe on the motorcycle when I got called by work for an emergency in our San Diego office. They wanted me to fly from home but no way was I going to ride home and then get on a plane. So instead of home, I went down 395 and took the whoops and that was so much fun. Sitting in the hotel and watching the news, I learned the CHP had been conducting maximum enforcement that day. Don’t think I saw one but I think I was speeding, I know I was speeding. How could you not? Anyway, they apparently do it a lot because people speed over the bumps.

Did you shoot some old wood while you were up there?

Well, Mike @mk5 broke another CV in the Cosos. He says everything's OK and he's got a spare this time (though it's taken many years, apparently he is able to learn new tricks), but that if I don't hear back from him again by 16:00 that we should all commence laughter and point in his general direction. Or at least that's what I think his millennial-looking, vowel-free SPOT message said. I've already suggested via my own 140 character SPOT that he should LRN2DRVMAN.

I think he actually asked for an assist if we don't hear by this evening, just fyi for those in the general vicinity. Mike is great at being appreciative, so I'm sure he'd be happy to provide a 5-pack of beer - or at very least, a single RC Cola - for any assist.

Mike just texted again. No cavalry needed, yet. Sounds like he's not doing himself any favors though, and we'll all get a good story when he's back in civilization.

Good to hear. I literally just got back from yanking a buddy out of a bad situation he got himself into. I'd much rather wait for the story then be part of it. lol
