    @Kwikvette
    Can the dynamic range of a system be easily reduced without a large reduction in sound quality?
    The difference between loud and quiet scenes is quite a lot, I’ve found myself turning it down and back up as fight scenes and other intense action come and go

    Absolutely

    A quality receiver can have multiple levels of "blending" in the loud with the quiet, almost like a "midnight" mode so to speak

    Different brands will have different names for it, and some even have varying levels for detecting and adjusting how much it tries to balance between the two

    To add, no it won't impact sound quality.

    You have the same speakers, setup, and everything.

    It's just about bringing closer the difference between loud explosions, and scenes with dialogue only. Some AVR's have modes for enhancing dialogue alone as well.
