Not sure if this is the right place for this, but it looks like I'll have some free time next Sunday or the one after to run a trail. I did the back side of Lemmon last weekend with my buddy in his 5th gen 4Runner and I think he'd be down to go out again. Haven't run Bull Springs Rd in a few years, might do Empire Ranch, but I'm open to other trails too, maybe the gas line road that runs from Empire Ranch up to a little west of Bisbee?

I've got a 1st gen, 4x4 on 33s. Bumper, sliders, engine skid. Toddler riding shotgun, but she didn't mind the bumps on Lemmon. My buddy's completely stock on KO2s, 4x4 as well. I think he's got an e locker.

Anybody want to join or suggest a trail? @TACOTU3, @chrslefty, @Taco184 we talked a few months ago I think.

Rice Peak and Chimney Rock might be the next step up in spiciness if you are looking for that. Sounds like you ought to be able to handle it but there might be a few spots of puckering for your friend without a lift or skids. If you don’t already have it this book has taken me all over the state and is well worth the couple of bucks:

    https://funtreks.com/product/guide-to-arizona-backroads-4-wheel-drive-trails-3rd-edition/

Keep me posted. I am in a rough stretch of travel right now so don’t count on me joining, but if it happens to work that would be cool.

Check out the Tucson Toyotas FB group too, they seem to get out for a run every couple of weeks and are usually on the milder side. Couple of really solid folks with them too.

The Florence one? I wanna see it go up the waterfall. They are pretty capable apparently. When I was a kid we had a brat that thing would go some places.

My buddy's looking to take it easy so we're planning on doing Bull Springs on Sunday if anyone wants to join. I'm not on FB, but my buddy is and he joined the FB group. Idk if he's gonna post there or not.

Had a great time, ran Bull Springs from I-19 to Patagonia, got lunch in Sonoita on the way back. After lunch my buddy headed home and the kiddo and I ran up past Kentucky Camp to Box Canyon.

Anyone have some go to spots on Mt Lemmon for camping? I haven't explored that area yet and with all the fires up north, I figured it would be a good alternative. I'm not asking for specific cords, just a nudge in the right direction please.

Take the fire control road down the back or up the back from oracle. Lots of good spots. There's a concrete barrier with some graffiti on a turn about 8 miles down from the top. Directly across from the barrier there's a little off shoot with a nice spot. If your going on a weekend the spots closer to the fire dept(at the top) fill up fast but during the week they are usually empty and in some bigger pines with a little higher elevation. Lots of spots to choose from though.

The back way was rockier than I expected. Nothing difficult though and it was a nice scenic drive. Summerhaven was a trip though. So many people and I got a lot of "get off my lawn" looks as I rolled through. The south side had some neat dirt roads but way too many people camping. Guess that's the go to spot from Tucson? Shocked me to see real campfires going this morning but I guess Coronado forest doesn't have any fire restrictions currently, lucky, ha. Thanks for the directions! I appreciate it!

Definitely better during the week. It gets pretty crowded up there. Did you find a good place to camp? The one spot I mentioned is pretty hard to get into for most of the "looky loos" and subarus

I found a pretty good spot on Friday night. What looked like a Hummer tried to roll into into it after I was already set up but they backed back out, ha. I did see that spot you mentioned but that was early Saturday morning and I wanted to keep exploring. I bet the rockiness keeps most out of that area. I only saw 4 camps over there and 2 looked like hunters. The other side though, ooof, those people don't care if they are partially on the road or not. The set up camps wherever and in crowds, smh. Even spotted a couple right next to the radio towers. That was wild but fun to get around/through. A bunch of Tesla's and even spotted a Prius. That's when I knew I had to keep moving, ha. I might explore some more when it gets cooler out. I didn't realize how many trails were over in that area.
