Apparently on the old Toyota R15 15 x 7 alloy rims there are 2 variants: Acorn (which I have) and Shank variants of that rim. Can I use either on my 98 4x4 Taco? I mean would you just need to get the appropriate style nuts for each type of rim? Meaning i could use the shank kind I would just need new nuts? WOuld a tire shop have these also or do i need Toyota? THX

From factory, Tacoma use Mag type lug nut. If you’re putting different wheels on, you have to use the appropriate lug nut type for that wheel. You cannot run Mag type lug nut on a rim that required and designed for acorn or spherical lug nut. The torque surface of each rim is different.

    Hopefully that answered your question.

Yes, you can run whatever wheels you want. Tacoma are designed for hub centric wheel but I used lug centric wheels and no issue. Some stated lug centric wheels vibrate, I didn’t notice. Some claim that hub centric rings fixed the vibration, I can’t speak for that as I have no experience with the ring adapter.

Honestly, you shouldn’t run into any issue. Just make sure you run proper lug nuts.
