Back in my sled days, I was riding with a group of friends in Quebec to a restaurant in town.
While waiting for a table, the staff was seating french speaking people ahead of us.
I then rattled off some of my limited French asking what was going on.
    They asked ,You know french?
I said a bit as half my descendants were from Quebec.
    They changed their tune quickly.
Got seated and a round of drinks for the table on the house with an apology.:humble:

My best friend growing up his step dad was crazy organized in this dept. He had the whole pegboard and outlines for the tools lol

Another kid, his dad had a chalkboard in the garage, and I mean a school grade, on wheels chalkboard. He would keep track of his auto maintenance on it. Odometer readings etc.

We were over there one day and the troublemaker in the "Rubber Knife Gang" as we were called - ERASED ALL OF IT. Oh boy.

The BMX crew, we were trouble alright.

Okay... I've got a couple of stories.

My daughter has this amazing facility for learning languages. She was speaking at 5 months and speaking in sentences a month later. She learned conversant American sign language in about a month.

So my 16 year old daughter and I are waiting in line at a taco joint. A couple of Mexican kids are standing behind us, and talking. I knew they were talking about my daughter, just from their body language. But I'm not fluent in Spanish, so I'm not really knowing what they are saying. But apparently my daughter was catching every word. We pick up our order and turn to leave, and my kid turns around and blasts these boys in their own language. Something about "picito penio" or something like that. And the Mexican kids turn pink and act embarrassed... but appreciate this little blonde girl reaming them a new one. As we leave they are laughing and already making up stories they will tell their friends.

Friends were out with us, and the kids, at a nice little local restaurant. Our waitress was deaf, and she motioned that she needed to see our lips as we ordered. Nice kid in a difficult job. My daughter signs to her and she just about breaks down in tears that someone can speak to her in a language she can understand. We all order through my daughter signing, and the waitress gives my kid a big hug. My friends had no idea. I have to say that's got to be one of my proudest moments.

On one of our trips to Italy, Venice in particular, we stopped at a Pension to get a room for a couple of nights. A lovely elderly couple owned the Pension and neither one spoke a word of English. So to communicate I spoke what little I knew of Spanish and put an Italian accent on it. I thought she was going to cook me a 20 course Italian meal. I was the only one she would talk to. Totally found that speaking a little of their language goes a long way (even if it wasn't really their language).

    love the sign stories.

My youngest daughter had a gift for signing and when in high school she took sign language classes at the local JC. She was amazing. Well, it just about cost her admission to Berkeley. Berkeley said her signing did not qualify as a language and her physics she took at the local UC when it high school did not qualify as far as Berkeley standards were concerned.

This girl has always been one tough cookie, evidenced by her later earning MVP status on the nationally ranked Berkeley rugby team and her years as a Paramedic with SF Fire. She challenged both rulings, met with the Dean of admissions and the head of the Physics dept and won her physics challenge but was bitterly disappointed she lost her language challenge. She was still admitted to Berkeley but had to take a foreign language.

    Ya horribly proud dad here...sorry...

    Evening all:

A kind of funny one that I heard was from a German teacher who could also speak Pennsylvania Dutch. They arrived at the Quebec border and the border patrol started speaking French to him which he also understood, to which he started speaking Pennsylvania Dutch back to him, he said that the border patrol guy had that WTH look on his face and then they both started speaking English.

The same. I have medium roast K cups. But I have a mix of BR, Folgers and a French vanilla grind for the French press. Which I highly recommend

Sorry to read that Arthur has a hold on you. He is no friend to anyone.

Signed english, 70's term fir sign language, is a class i took to better myself. Berkly had theirhead up their butt, sign language is truly the universal language. Persons that know sign language can communicat with other prrsons all over the world.

I have a Pod, K Cup, subscription. Try the Just Black or CAF. Little bit stronger but will wake you up. The Hazelnut is tasty if you enjoy flavored coffee.

Good morning. Time to get working on the carb for the chipper today. After a walk and gym visit. I need to sell the old smoker, taking up space in the garage at this point.
