I'm swapping rear axles and want to have a custom tone ring made to press onto the shaft. It looks like the rear tone rings on the 2nd gen are somehow incorporated into the bearing and don't have visible teeth. Does anyone know what the tooth count would need to be to make the ABS happy?

Teeth wouldn't work, the tone rings are alternating magnetic poles and it doesn't give us a "count".

Dang. I wonder if there's a way to cannibalize a bearing and put the magnetic ring on the shaft somehow.

Don't know, I know it would be pretty tricky to get it right as the sensors can determine wheel speed as well as direction of rotation by the sequence of poles of the magnet. If one or more sensors don't agree on speed and direction it will trigger a code.

I might just pull the ABS light bulb from the dash lol. Luckily they stopped doing safety inspections here, but that light bugged me to no end on my last Tacoma. The only way to keep ABS with an axle swap looks like the Diamond 9.5" housing, but that sets me back like $2500 just for the housing+center section and keeps the stock shafts and drums. I picked up a 9.5 semi float 14 bolt for $300 and am picking up a donor soon for rear discs. I'd honestly rather have rear discs and 33 spline shafts than ABS.
