Diesel owners have been getting hammered at the pump now for 5 years. I wanted to go diesel because they can't put ethanol in but the price of diesel is just crazy and it shouldn't be.

You do know they put Bio Diesel in diesel now. Has some of the same effects as ethanol on a gas engine.

Biodiesel can degrade gaskets, lower MPGs, more expensive and gells considerably easier than regular diesel in cold climates.

Not much better really

Well fir one a failed fuel pump because of gelling

 

That's a sign you need to move to a warmer climate.

 

He mainly lives in Southern California.
Vaca house is towards the north where its cold. Guessing thats where he gelled. Probably had summer blend in the tank and had no anti gell in it.

Fair is fair, as I see it.

I always scope to see if I'm near a diesel if I'm gassing up, just to make sure I'm not blocking it.

This is another pet peeve, the local station I use has marked entrance sides and DO NOT ENTER posted on the side of each pump you should not drive up to. Almost got the front end bashed in a while ago by some jerk not minding the signs "oh I didn't know"..well even after I pointed it out he still got out and stretched the hose to gas up so double the asshole.

Stop and Shop does a similar thing, and I always scope for those deals. They usually have "spend $15 on any combo of (list 4 items) and get 500 points (10 cents per gallon per 100 pts). I drive right by one at least once a week going home from my Monday meeting and worst case I'm popping in for a couple of small things anyway. They do cap you at 20 gallons and I think $1.50 per gallon. Works good because I don't drive my truck much so I can wait till the light trips and then get the max savings per gallon (since wife's Rav has a much smaller tank) and bring my small engine cans for the rest. That gift card hack is especially useful as you're going to do the action anyway.

I believe they only mandate that in some of the western states. It's difficult to find biodiesel in the southeast. Here we typically get regular #2 diesel. I looked online in my area and the local city only has one station listed and I'm not sure they still carry it. I'm going to go by there next time I'm in the city to see for myself. When I was younger I though biodiesel was a pretty good fuel, but I've changed my mind since all the emissions crap has been forced upon us.

 

I've been doing the GC hack for about 10 years and it's probably saved me between 10-12k in fuel expenses over the years. For along time I would get $500 Amazon cards nearly every month, whenever I could get 4x points. But I reckon Kroger decided they were losing to much money on them, cause the removed Amazon from the eligible cards last year. Living in the country I tend to shop a lot on Amazon.

 

I always say "that extra money looks better in my pocket versus theirs". If you were going out of your way to do it maybe that's a different topic of course.

The way my truck goes nowadays I fill every 3 weeks or so, used to be 1.5 to 2 weeks before I worked from home.

We did get Prime several years ago when my uncle went into assisted living..auto delivery for his necessities that we were still responsible for providing. I'd never get rid of it, between buying CDs which I just flat out can't find around me locally anymore plus with my wife's surgery and all the "oh crap we need this too" things that brought.
