    Lol I figured as much.

A fridge is one of those things I really want, but am doing my best to avoid getting for as long as I can lol. So far a good cooler pre-chilled hasn't done me wrong yet. I just know I'd need to do some extra electrical to support it and would just be adding even more weight to my already heavy pig.

That said, one powered by propane is interesting.

Just like posting on here from the can!

So far, one of us has always left the camper when someone is doing #2, lol.

12v compressor fridge is a game changer. Wife and I have said again and again and again, we would give up the camper in a heartbeat before giving up the fridge. We used to carry a cooler twice as big as the one with food in it JUST for ice. We even ran it out when camping in hot weather and had to go buy more. and you have a soggy mess. The fridge needs zero ice, so can be much smaller for the same volume of food/drinks, is super efficient on power, and has no trouble keeping stuff frozen if you want up to over 100 degrees.

after going to a fridge, I'll never go back.

they dont need that much power if you get a decent one. there is also models available with a built in battery now.

I run a dometic cfx35w with a goal zero 500x and it'll last 1-2 days without the truck running. I've also got a solar panel if im gonna be camped out for a while.

exactly this. I used a good cooler a few times but having to restock ice and deal with soggy food is a pain every few days.

just a couple of things tbh
ahh i see. bummer its not made anymore it looks nice! i have been looking into them and watching for mold so far ive found a few with mold and a few without mold. the big issue is as you stated the price! 6k isnt terrible but it also sucks for how old some of these campers are! id like to spend around 4k and less but struggles to find that lol
is that one of the hard top campers? im personally not a fan of those because of the weight and height of them. id prefer one of the pop up versions personally so i can still drive around with it on the truck if need be.
haha a few campgrounds out here have really nice ones while some are well a campground bathroom!
about time that showed up! im expecting a sound video soon sir!

Oh yeah, I'm fully aware it would be a huge upgrade and change the game for me entirely lol. One of those "can't miss what you never had" things for me...cuz I know once I try it I'll never be able to go back.

So far the Fatboy Coolers have been doing great for me, as long as I remember to throw in a couple ice packs in the night before to pre-chill the cooler. Helps the ice last significantly longer.

otherwise, yeah everything becomes a soggy mess after day 2 lol.
My initial plan when I was considering putting a fridge in the truck was to do either a dual battery setup, or tie in some hood/roof mounted solar panels to help top up the single battery. I considered a powerstation setup, but that was one more hefty item to bring along. one with a built in battery could be the ticket, depending how long it lasts.

Yeah, the cirrus, as well as my Scout, are hard walls.

The weight up high is not as noticeable as you'd think. I'd take my truck anywhere I would have before I got the camper, just a little slower. Only issue I have is trees. I've been off camber enough I would have hit trees lining the trail, so I had to back up and turn around.

Getting a small 500wh power station works well with a fridge (and is pretty light weight). My 100w portable panel has been enough to keep my CFX75DZW going indefinitely.

You had mentioned needing to use your truck as a truck. With my camper, I can remove it 10 minutes or less. Loading it back up about 15 minutes. I also like that I'm not driving a POS built RV. If something happens to the camper, I just get a different one, or repair it off the truck.

    Just for clarity,

I assume your 100w panel is feeding into the power station the fridge is hooked up to?

i might have to start looking into this now, thanks a lot lol.

Can confirm, wheeling with a camper will make one hyper aware of the lean angle going thru the trees.
I use a 100w panel too, and yes, the fridge plugs into the house battery, not direct to the panel. The fridge draws power thru the night of course, and if the sun is out, it will easily replenish the battery, usually around noon. I use a lithium house battery, lead-acid does not do as well.

I think my plan down the road is to get a teardrop trailer or something that's just as small. Wife and I don't care about having a full on camper but being warm when we go to bed during off-season trips would be nice.

correct the other versions of the slide in campers thankfully can still come on and off easily. i do agree with the rv and campers out atm.... they all seem to be so cheap! even thou the price tags are still roughly 40k up!

oh ya how does insurance work on something like that?

back when i had my tacoma me and the gf were looking at the small campers. they are roughly 16ft long and loaded with a lot of features and only weigh around 3k lbs. i still really like them but we wanted to haul the bikes around and i personally hate loading bikes in the bed haha.

The camper is usually covered by the truck it sits on, no extra cost, at least not here. YMMV.
