I did something a little out the ordinary this weekend...I packed up my bike with a lunch, drinks, snacks, swim trunks, towel and binoculars and rode an old rail trail along a river and halfway around a lake. I swam in the lake. I ate lunch at a refurbished train platform and spied on boaters, birds and jet-skiers. I made my way back and couldn't resist swimming in the river, too. All in all, I rode about 24 miles, saw 5 people on the trail (all fishermen) and spent around 6 hours just wasting time looking at stuff...A real luxury in this day and age. Next time I won't forget the flip flops...

Hi All. Hoping this group can help me out. Unfortunately my Transition Scout was stolen from my "Secure" apartment complex in a "Secure" bike storage room. Multiple locks were cut off. I live in Portland and I don't think I will be seeing this again.

Question for this group is do you think it is worth filing an insurance claim?

But anyways yes. Id use my renters if my bike got stolen. I couldn't afford to replace what I have otherwise.

depends on your insurance. i only paid my deductible (around 300 or something i dont remember) when my bike was stolen from my old apartment. they paid out full value of the bike. since i was working at a bike shop at the time, i got discounts on everything and got to upgrade on the next bike.

For those not familiar, this is in Utah County (Utah), about 35 miles south of SLC proper. All of these trails are on TrailForks.

I started at Vivian Park in Provo Canyon (a little uphill from Bridal Veil Falls). That's where the Provo Canyon paved trail turns to gravel. I rode up to Deer Creek dam on gravel (old railway) and the old hwy. There's a big parking lot there and the "Deer Creek Parkway" begins. It's an old double-track on the north side of Deer Creek reservoir. It's for bikes and walking only...no motor vehicles allowed. The gravel road goes all the way to Soldier Hollow - it's about 8 miles one-way. It's very scenic and quiet and on a weekday you're almost guaranteed to see no other people. There are a few really nice beaches on the lake over there that I've never seen a soul using. You do have to do some minor bushwacking to get down to the water, but totally worth it! The little train platform is about 4 miles in from the dam. It's right next to the trail...can't miss it.

It's a really great gravel ride. You can start at multiple places to make it as long (or short) as you want. I usually start at Vivian Park or at the big parking lot up top by the dam. I started at Timpanogos Park once - down at the bottom of the canyon. That was a 38-mile R/T. I don't recommend starting down there on a weekend...The paved section up to Vivian is a zoo. Beautiful ride along the river, but So. Many. People.

If your bike was stored in a "bike storage room" provided by the apartment complex, you should file an insurance claim with the Apartment Complex's insurance. The bike was in their space, not in your apartment. If you stored the bike there by choice, there could be pushback. If the Complex requires you to use this space for your bike (bike not allowed in your unit), then absolutely, 100% THEIR insurance should pay for your stolen property.

Don't let them give you excuses. File a suit in small claims court if they don't take you seriously. You have rights in this situation.

    Thanks!

I've been looking for more easy gravel rides to take my daughter on. She is just getting into more and more riding but not quite ready for singletrack and this seems like a great option where we can go as far (or short) as she's comfortable with and stop for some scenery, lunch, swim, etc.

NBD for my daughter this past Sunday! BMC Twostroke with 20" wheels, 2.4" tires, hydrailic brakes, etc.!

Do it! Lots of places to swim in the Provo River (or fish) with easy access. The lake can be a little tougher to get to for swimming, but also great. FYI - about 2 miles (uphill) from Vivian Park there is a 300ft section with fresh gravel that is not settled and it's DEEP. Deep like trying to ride through quicksand. I had a blast and will definitely do it again. The nice thing about the Provo River section...it's an old railroad and the grade is never more than 3%.

Totally recognize this area, I run through provo canyon a fair amount from my office in provo. Super nice through there, I sometime jump in deer creek res after I ride in BCC on the way to work too. Such a good area.

Couple weeks ago now, but I got the new Stylus MX they sent me for release built up and some riding on it. Got some goofy build photos. Thing rips harder than the old one, I'm stoked, anybody in here into hardtails?
